Angkor Wat was originally dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu. The five-towered temple shaped like a lotus bud, representing Mount Meru (the center of the universe), stands in the middle of the complex. Ta Prohm is the tree temple surrounded by the dense jungle. The temple buildings remain smothered by the roots of giant banyan trees. The remote temple complex of Banteay Srei (meaning Citadel of beauty) is constructed of pink sandstone and consists of three primary towers.
