Wow, you are helping to form new priests. I remember you talking on the forums about your own path to ordination. Makes me feel a bit old.

Dear Father Jonathan, I should like to.thank you for this excellent exposition of what Priesthood and Priestly ministry is about. Our faith is formed by God via the teachings of Scripture and tradition and we know that as Catholics we are called to God's Royal Priesthood but there are specific ministries within this flowing from Christ's Priestly ministry. I am an Acolyte within the Catholic Church who trained for the Priestly ministry and my ministry came via my Bishop along with the ministry of Lector and although I wasn't ordained to the Priesthood I have been able to use my vocation for many years and please God for years to come. My Priestly training has been so essential and helpful in my life and has helped me to understand that God calls each one of us to a specific vocation and through this been able to help others to get to know Our Lord.. May your friend have a most wonderful Ordination and a wonderful Presbyteral Ministry in the years ahead. Thank you again for your very informative videos and may you be truly blessed in the Season of Lent looking forward to the great joy of Christ's Resurrection at Easter. God bless you and be with you in your Sacred Ministry. With prayers, Brian

Fr Jonathan what would you say about the opinion of some Evangelicals who have said (to me, but also others) that a requirement for ordination is that one must be "good with people" (this is considered an essential requirement for becoming a minister)? That is to say, those who do not possess the "god given" gift of "being good with people" are not called into the ministry, and cannot become ordained, because "being good with people" is a sign a man has been called into ministry.

Well, the essential ingredient to living the Christian life is to love God and neighbour whether or not one is called for the priesthood. A priest, however, ought to exemplify that more than most. But love is about willing another's perfection in God not about necessarily being appealing to people. St John Baptist does not seem to me to be a people person but he desires the salvation of all who come to him. I think other saints might also be regarded in the same vein. St Jerome sounds rather irascible, St Nicholas a bit ready with his fists (if that legend is to be believed) and St Athanasius also rather fierce. It is how a person demonstrates true love rather than friendliness that matters more, in my opinion.
