Your lats don't get thicker they get wider only. Your thickness is Teres Rhomboids infraspinatus and of course Traps. You find ways to grow them and you will be thicker no matter what exercise you do.

@@raulthetrainer Tbh these genetic freak bodybuilders could basically do anything and grow more than most guys. I put on muscle at a faster rate than most dudes but obviously nothing quite like a pro bodybuilder. Sometimes they’re really not the right guys to listen to because moving any sort of weight resulted in them gaining muscle.

Deadlifts mainly work the spinal erectors and hamstrings. This makes it a great movement for making a string lower back to reduce injury risk (if done with no ego lifting). The traps get a weighted stretch and so are also activated as stabilisers., so help with upper back thickness.

I love to do deadlifts and T-bar rows and also bent rows,it will blow your back up,people think deads aren't beneficial,I'm old school,they're a part of my back routine.Actually I follow Ron Coleman back routine and it works for me.

I start my full body training off with deadlifts. Nothing wildly heavy but 3 sets 10 reps with 2 minutes rest. Your traps will grow like crazy and the details start to come in the entire back. Trigger is to push your heel through the ground and let your arms just be hooks🪝

I love deadlifts. Unfortunately I had a bad back injury that was unrelated to lifting and I can't do them regularly anymore. I notice a big difference during the periods where I can do them, however

I used to get a bad back from my carpentry job but once I started deadlifting it strengthened my lower back and now It’s bulletproof I go light for 12 reps x3 sets and rarely increase weight by much

Deadlifts are amazing for your back stability if your rep range and weight is responsible! I do 4x8 in a sort of pyramid set where the first and last set function as a warmup and cooldown set, works wonders!

It’s so important for stability and overall strength. Bodybuilders need that, too. I’m always amazed by how many amateur bodybuilders seem to care nothing for overall health and utility.

I agree with this. After regularly deadlifting 2 times per week I can attest to the functionality of the exercise. So much lifting is done from the floor at my job and having that back stability is very reassuring and helps prevent injury :)

I really like deadlifts so on my back days I will sometimes do deadlifts from the floor and sometimes I’ll do them from the rack,but there both really good for the back 💪😎

Franco is proof that deads are great. Arnold and Franco would actually stand on wooden boxes to make it harder. Arnold's book says only to do deadlifts once every two weeks though. You can't do them often or else you miss workouts.

I have some monstrous traps that were undiscovered until I learned to flex them and I swear they came straight from the years of deadlifting and when we stopped deadlifting at football workouts after years of doing it my lower back just doesn’t look as ripped as it used to

Whats interesting is that bodybuilders today do more deadlifts and rows while Golden era guys like Sergio and Franco did way more pullups and upright rows. I think its because in the Golden Era they wanted a wide back to build the V taper, but not necessarily a thick back from the side. Its probably an aesthetics thing

My one arm broken in 2007 and now have plates in it and is weak than the other arm.How to balance my arms.Which exercises would you suggest me?

When you do unilateral exercises, perform your weak arm first. However many reps you did with that arm, do it with your stronger arm. That way your weak arm can catch up in strength to your strong arm but your strong arm doesn’t keep gaining strength too quickly

Deadlifts done with reasonable weights are extremely necessary for lower back health as you age. Lower back muscles, at least for me, always lose strength rapidly. When weak I get back issues and when strong I do not.

Deadlfts are absolutely a solid exercise- but not sure how necessary they are if youre trying to look like Jay Cutler lol. Actually a good variation which my yield more “visible” results is the rack pull. The rack pull forces you to use your lats a bit more and takes much of the hamstrings out of the movement.

Build your back first before introducing deadlifts to your program. If you have no muscles to start with then you’re asking for trouble.
