This was super helpful! Especially your diagram about how they snap into the caliper, couldn't figure it out for the life of me

I'm glad that I'm not the only one to struggle with this. I was out in the middle of no where and ended up removing that top clip all together

Fortunately I had the comfort of my shed. It's simillar to a car brake caliper, but those come apart to swap pads.

You helped me greatly as I stared at my caliper after taking out the two horizontal bolts and everything fell on the shed floor 😅

Ahh, that fun moment when gravity grabs your bike parts! Thanks for the comment.

The little spring clip on top of the calipers is actually removable and can be re-inserted after fitting the calipers.

I think I show pretty well it is removable. It will be impossible to insert afterwards.

Also - really handy, before I saw this I'd lost a new pad because I hadn't clicked in the pads, to great job at making this clear. Thanks

First time I've come across these too. Until I watched this I didn't realise they clipped in. I found, a flat blade screwdriver against the pad (metal edge) and a gentle palm tap into place. Rubbish design if you ask me. Thanks for the helpful vid 👍

Same as me, only ever come across the ones secured with a retaining pin previously.

I watched several other BB7 videos before finding yours...which is half as long and twice as good! Both brakes are replaced now, the only hitch was I accidentally left the spacer in the first time, and it took me a while to figure out why I couldn't push the pads in. Thanks again, I immediately subscribed. :)

@@theordinaryathlete LOL !! Seriously though, your video helped me ... a pad came out the other day as i was putting the wheel on, and I could not figure out how to get it properly back in there. so, as it was dark I just stuffed it in and lived with the excess friction for a few k. All good now though. Cheers big fella! :)

Had the same issue with aftermarket brake pads. The original Avids are very good, some pads are more expensive but not necessarely better. Cleanig up the bike and the calipers, screws and bit and pieces would have helped also. 🤣

Ha ha, this bike rarely gets a clean the poor thing. It's my workhorse.
