My favorite Walcott moment is when joe gans defended the title against buddy king and the white crowd began heckling gans and shouting fake, walcott jumped in the ring and said he'd lick the entire crowd, and gans dared them step in. That hushed the crowd and gans knocked out king the next round after putting him down 3 times.

Most impressive thing about Walcott is that he seemed like such a kind, down to earth soul. Not an ounce of bitterness despite everything he went through in his career. Still had nothing but love for the sport despite all it did to him. It takes a lot of strength to live the life he did an stay humble and optimistic. God I sound like Teddy Atlas rn lol

Awesome video. Walcott lost fingers in a gun accident a few weeks after the Gans fight and was never able to form a good right hand fist again. Even though he unbelievably returned to the ring 2 years later and fought on for five more years and dozens more fights, including a few 20-rounders. No modern commission would have licensed him after his accident. That was just how it was then

Blood Boxing, what your researching is very informative. I can relate to this very important commitments to historical ARCHIVES. Joe Walcott was cheated out of his world Welterweight Championship from reff Dick O'Sullivan in his defense of the title with Dixie kid. Dick O'Sullivan place a bet against Walcott. Dixie kid would become champ. After investigation Walcott would regain his title 1904.

Heavyweight champion Jack Johnson rated Walcott as one of the most powerful hitters he'd ever known (they sparred many times). Langford himself paid Walcott the great tribute of ranking him at the very top when it came to the most dangerous punchers he had encountered in his incredibly long career. Ring magazines Nat Fleischer doesn't rate him as one of the best welterweights of all time, he rated hime as the GREATEST welterweight of all time! He doesn't have a Bajan accent, but he did leaves Barbados and headed to Boston at the age of FOURTEEN. that's crazy!

Retro Boxing & Documentaries as a collector I can assure you: it’s been known about for a while, and as soon as it’s on KZitem it ceases being rare. Only reason I saw this video is because someone posted it on ESB/BF24. I clicked on it just to say ‘this isn’t rare’. I’ve uploaded actual rare footage to KZitem and then? It’s no longer rare.
