Basic Concepts of Insulation were covered in my earlier Video. Some more aspects of Insulation are covered in detail.
Electric Field means Voltage / Distance. With the help of Electric Field Strength of Insulation, it is decided how much Thickness of Insulation is required for a given Voltage. If Electric Field exceeds breakdown Strength of Voltage, Insulation fails.
It is possible that Insulation is not Dielectric. However in Electrical Machines, Mica is used in Insulation and Mica is Dielectrc. Hence these 2 terms are used Interchangably.
Electric Discharge means flow of Current in Air. It may take place atr various places of Winding. It it occurs on the Surface, it is called Surface Discharge. It may be visible at overhang portion during HV Test. Visible Discharge is called Corona. It may occur inside the Insulation. It is called Partial Discharge.
When a DC Voltage by Meggar is applied, various types of Current Flow. Understanding these Current helps in understanding Absorption Coefficient, Polarisation Index etc.
