If your wheels aint spinning you aint winning! Yeah $38 an hour when you're moving. You have to take into account all the hours and work you put in for free. That $28 an hour bests your $38 an all day long. Trust me, i drove OTR for 25 years and if you count all the time that you work for free for these companies you're not making that great of money. Traffic, bad weather, delays at the shippers, and constant DOT BS i dont miss it at all. I make $23.50 an hour and im at home every night and I'm off friday, Saturdays, and Sundays. Will never go back to OTR too much free labor and BS.

When I hauled freight in the early 80's the company I drove for had the contract for hauling all the beer into our area. It was nice taking a trailer load to the liquor store, but all the bars required unloading by hand. It was a fair bit of work unloading 40,000 to 45,000 lb of beer by hand on beer days each week. I spent a lot of my years hauling tankers. Most of which were trains of different configurations. The trains with a long lead trailer and a short pup on the rear got really interesting, especially on ice. The picture of the 88 Kenworth I drove I sent you has that combo hooked up. I was hauling crude oil at the time. The white Eagle has the same set up but with smaller diameter tanks we hauled liquid sulphur in.

When I first grabbed a wheel (Helm) of a ship (SS City of Saginaw 31), I put her off course!! I told the Captain and he placed it back on course. In 1990 I went to Great Britain. We rented a car, I showed them my American Driver’s license and they handed me the keys. Driving on the wrong side of the road and shifting with my left hand wasn’t so hard. Fortunately, the foot pedals remained in the same configuration in both countries. But I had never faced a Roundabout before. I was told to stay to the left until I was ready to exit, then move right. What the didn’t tell me was that instead of regular exits off their motorway (our expressway/interstate), you had roundabouts to exit the higher speed roads. And ALL cars had to slow down and maneuver through the roundabout, not just the cars who actually needed to exit. I should have been forced to sit down, read directions, and/or see a video of this process before getting in that car. I cannot imagine driving in a country where I cannot read the street signs. I know they use universal signals these days to explain common driving maneuvers, but a runaway truck scenario is far from a daily occurrence. Between countries. Even between states. At most, we have some pretty steep hills. But they are not so long as to risk our brakes burning up. For those of us living in areas without mountains, driving through a mountain range is not covered in our normal daily driving lives. Never mind in a foreign country.

My husband and I watched this together. He said he did this back in the day. He said though he was on cement. He and you were confusing me with all the technical things about the landing gear and wheel placement for distribution of the load. Now, my first husband would love this trip as he loved Coors beer. In fact, in early 80s we did have to stop by the Coors plant while going through CO. Enjoy your Christmas vacation.

I went into the tavern and used their restroom, and never saw the two drivers assigned with those two trucks. When I came back out, there was two drivers looking out the windows to see, if I was back at my truck? Actually I was standing behind them, there with each driver holding a beer! They looked shocked when they turned and saw me. I just walked out. lol

Funny how Coors has a picture of Dandy Falls (along Wolf Creek Pass) on the can, but the water they use is from Clear Creek adjacent to Coors.
@nodttiurp
2 жыл бұрын
Wrong on both points. No water from Clear Creek is used in the making of Coors. After filtering down miles through the Rocky Mountains, all water used in the beer comes from subterranean wells deep below the shale layer. The model for the Coors logo created in 1978 is Melton Falls near Marble. There are two waterfalls. The picture of the first waterfall was taken in 1937. The waterfall is located at Fish Creek Falls, near Steamboat Springs, CO.

Many thanks Mike for posting this video. Been since the early nineties since I last loaded there. So many changes since then. Al trailers loaded or empty were in one lot and it was totally paved. What a sloppy mess in those dirt lots. All my loads were drop and hook and that was back before auto slack adjusters. Would crawl under the trailer and adjust brakes before heading into the mountains. Glad it was not in mud. All trailers were moved by yard dogs up a 3 mile road to the actual brewery. No outside truck could spot a trailer into a dock. Yard dog drivers were directly employed by Coors and made almost that much hourly wage back then. They must of contracted that work out privately. Sorry for the ramble but I saw many more changes. Thanks again for the ride brother. Doug.
