To fill it in properly, avoid any blowout there it's hot especially mig can leave a hole and induce a crack later on just good practice. Although short circuit mig is nothing but a caulk gun and weak to me. I won't use it unless I'm required to spray arc or gobular is much better, need prep to get a strong root with short circuit and multi pass but everything has its place. Short circuit on thick plate is begging for failure.

Cleaned steel, spray mag, pulse to keep the heat controlled, coming a bit back is good but there's better technique for that. (read till end) This video IS really good to teach young generation.👏 Later when more experienced just leave the back and forth motion behind. (It's OK to have a little back and forth, as long as it's not excessive, especialy if you don't have a machine that has pulse, it helps new guys to avoid undercut and it helps to keep constant travel speed.) But do it with smooth continuous speed 😎 robot style. What I like to suggest for terminating the weld is: Just before it completely cools (still red hot but not white glow) put a tack into that end to ensure the shrinkage crater is fully closed. And it looks absolutely beautiful. Thats how I teach it to new guys in the shop. Quality over quantity workshops do it like this. Well done. 🎉

No need to lick the pool back and forth, your pulling impurities into your weld plus you'll be fluctuating your power output. Keep it smooth and straight with a constant forward speed. Put a bigger tack at the end of your pass a run into it and round the corner, this will illuminate the crater without need to spot or pull back. 😊

I never understand why some MIG welders are always going back and forth?! This is not the correct technique for welding because of the risk of side wall lack of fusion. Additionally you should check also the macro. A uniform nice straight move is the best welding technique for a smoot weld and penetration. Moreover, you easily can identify weaknesses on the top of the weld. The back forth welding technique is hiding the mistakes and a lower quality.
