Thanks for giving my this opportunity, to say how much I love my Behringer gear. Yes, I own some Moog gear too, but Behringer is a winner for making affordable gear available, to folks on a budget. Have had zero problems with Behringer quality. PS I am a lifelong musician, and at 62 years old, have lived through all the originals, and applaud Behringer for what they are doing. Happy trails to all 🎶🌎☮❤

If he can afford Moogs and the like, good luck to him, but many of us can't and Behringer offers some fanatics low budget alternatives!! Keep up the great work Behringer!!

I have old and middle-aged synthesizers from Korg, Yamaha, Kawai, Roland, Moog (Matriarch, Opus3 and the Moogs for the iPad) and some analog and digital effects devices from various manufacturers. And in the middle of it all, various mixers and compressors from Behringer from the 90s and 2000s and a few new Behringer synths. Fortunately, to date I have not broken a single Behringer product, even though all the pots wobble and the little Xenyx mixer cannot be used as an audio interface because of its loud chirping. Despite my advanced age, I am free of any Behringer trauma or complex. Yes, there is real junk there, but also equipment that has been working perfectly for thirty years. And, yes, I also know of defective equipment, but only from my musical circle of friends. Greetings from Germany!😉🇩🇪🤝

Why is this post titled "I can't even give this thing away!"? And what is this whining all about? If you didn't buy the thing in a store where you could try that "B" Model D, to see if it is to your liking, then all online stores are forced by law to have a trial period at home and send it back with a money back guarantee.

I'm glad you found a good home for the Model D. One thing I do think about Behringer products is I don't believe they are going to retain much resale value. Afterall, they were built to a price point to make them affordable. As a result, corners had to be cut regarding quality in some form or fashion. By the way, that day you spoke of at the end has come for me. I'm considering purging most of my budget synths made by "B." To be honest, I hardly ever spent any time with them to grow any attachment to them. I've been too busy playing with my other higher-end instruments. The the "B" synth I did soend the most time with was the Poly-D and I no longer own that. I'm now shooting for an OB-X8 and/or a Minimoog to go with my Prophet synths. I only want QUALITY synths that sound good and will last me the rest of my life.

Nice to find someone who can use it. It's great for someone just starting out, I suppose. Having a real synth with a control panel is a necessity for sound design, in my opinion. But getting a first one is quite a leap. Having a physical synth is sort of an initiation. Having all those knobs to tweak makes using VSTs a bit easier moving forward. Because just knowing how they work opens the mind a bit. Once you know one subtractive synthesizer, you know all subtractive synthesizers. Wish I could say the same for FM.

Behringer stuff is ideal if you’re young and new to hardware synths? I’m old and have owned hardware synths for longer than I’d care to admit. But I love what Behringer are doing. Been ripped off too many times by synth companies. Most of the clones sound close enough to the originals to be indistinguishable in a mix. And they could charge 50% more and still be cheap.

Back when I was a young kid in the 70s my friend David and I loved playing with GI Joes. He had a shit ton of this Montgomery Ward GI Joe clone type stuff… dolls, vehicles, all that…. All made to the same specs so that it was compatible with genuine GI Joe stuff. Although we played with the Montgomery Ward versions we never really felt like it was the real deal, and it really was a cheaper version overall. A lot of Behringer stuff reminds me of the Montgomery Ward line of GI Joe wannabe products… it’s cool in its own way, but just doesn’t quite feel legit. 😅

I can´t honestly understand this anti-Behringer rant. The Minimoog was one of the most influential synths ever and is still a highly desirable synth. Good luck in finding a classic unit, and the new reissue is obscenely expensive. With a good controller and the Behringer model D you get acces to the same sound and expressive resources. To have access to clones of so many classic synths for such low price is nothing short of a miracle. In my opinion Behringer is the best thing that has happened to music technology since Steinberg decided to make the VST protocol public domain.

A few years ago I bought a Roland Super JX10 with controller for a very good price from an elderly gentleman who was giving up playing keyboards because of healths issues. He told me he'd just sold an Oberheim OB8 at a price I'd have snapped his hand off for. Apparently the buyer kept trying to find issues with it so that he could get the price down further. Had I been the seller it would've given me great satisfaction to have told this bloke in no uncertain terms that with an attitude like his, I'd rather smash the synth to pieces than to sell to him. I imagine it would've been a beautiful thing to have seen his face when he realised that his greed had just talked him out of acquiring an absolute bargain!

So buy a very expensive original that can break down any second, has no MIDI or even CV/Gate inputs, and to make music where these days you get paid FVCK ALL for your hard work. Considering these points it makes sense to buy a D from Behringer. Even original analogue synths are not fetching crazy prices at the moment, the whole bubble has finally burst and greedy people who pushed up the prices are causing pain to those who paid way too much on their 'investments' now.

I bought a Neutron recently, and have a CAT and also the TD-3-MO. They all sound great, especially the Neutron! I have no regrets in purchasing these, and realise they may have a more limited shelf life than premium gear, but it’s suited my budget, which is limited. I don’t like the fact Behringer are ripping off existing current gear, I do think that it’s fraudulent behaviour, and morally reprehensible, but the vintage gear clones I don’t have an issue with in the slightest. This is Capitalism, the laws are allowing Uli to do this, nature abhors a vacuum, and he’s filling it. Change the laws, remove that vacuum. As for the sound, take a look at the comparison videos of the B-“D” and the Mini Moog, like Starsky Carr’s vid, they may not be identical, but they are very very very close.

Not all Behringer gear is junk. What viable alternatives are there to the VC-340 , 2600 or Solina at a comparable price point? The only thing on the market for good TR-909 alternatives that is better than the RD-9 drum machine is the Dinsync RE-909, which one has to build one'self as well as source the rare components (the kit, PCB etc is not complete!).It is however, virtually a replica of a TR-909 including replicating the micro-timing behaviour of the Roland classic sequencer (it's not just about replicating the analogue circuitry for the sounds). I do not like vst's. ACB version of SH-2 is crap. (nothing compares to the original). The Roland Boutique version (VS-330) is inferior. The original VP-330 being vintage,(maintenance issues), rare & quite expensive. Most creative musicians/producers care not for aesthetics, trends or brand name, rather sonic qualities, character uniqueness & overall usability. As long as the gear gets used well that's what really matters i.m.h.o.

Their channels are very positive, and are actually about music, as opposed to politics. If you're a fan of good audio production, Tim doesn't chew Everlasting Gobstoppers (or whatever the hell is going on in this video!?) The Model D is one of the best starter synths available. The Behringer Pro 1, is a fantastic replica of the Sequencial Pro 1. Vince Clark's (from Depeche Mode) favourite synth to this day is the Pro 1.
