My home town is Dalhart, far NW Panhandle corner. Grew up there on a farm in 1950's. People drive through Dalhart to get to Colorado or anyplace else. I tell people it is so flat and featureless you can see into tomorrow and back to yesterday. It has its own natural beauty, you just have to look harder. Wind and the godawful "blue northerners" with snow and ice that happen in the winter are truly awe inspiring, and deadly. Makes you realize your true place in the world. Don't miss it now!

He got it absolutely right! I think if I had drawn it up it would have been pretty much the same, though because of oil wells and isolation, I would have just lumped the panhandle in the west Texas; it really is a forgotten wasteland, though. East Texas is totally unique, the area from Dallas to Killeen is unique, from south of Killeen to south of Austin is unique, from San Antonio to the border is unique, and Houston is totally its own little country. So he got it right! The best place to live in Texas is San Antonio, BTW, and second best is in the east. I grew up in a suburb just west of Dallas and saw it all.
