I’m curious, who here has a Bible study routine? How often is it, and would you describe it? I’m always trying to learn from what others are doing, and know others in the comments will benefit as well. Thanks so much for watching and subscribing 🙌🏼

Beautiful, thank you for sharing this. I really appreciate the approach of reading multiple translations to get the full thought and meaning. I try to do this too before going to commentaries.

Since 2020 I have adopted an online pastor, well several of them actually. But this one in particular live streams daily about half an hour, it's reading a passage of the day, and a hymn of the day. A verse of the week to memorize, and a psalm of the week. It's not really a Bible study, but he also streams 2 Bible studies a week. Nothing too in depth but it's decent. I'm not part of his real life congregation, so I don't feel like joining the live streams, but I watch later. Sometimes I binge watch a few, other days I don't watch any. Every day I listen to Christian talk radio too for a while.

For my Bible study, I read the scripture and read a couple of commentaries and use a Bible dictionary when needed. I then make notes that will help me understand it the next time I read it. I have found that I retain the text of the Bible better by diving in a little further and finding understanding. I attempt to do this daily if I can. Sometimes it’s a few chapters and sometimes it’s only one! Hopefully in the future I will get even deeper into my study. I am almost finished with the Bible and I’ve been “studying” for 1.5 years now.

When you talked about familiarity, I think that is the most important thing. That can come from reading, but it can also come from hearing. So even if I don't read the Bible every day, I hear it. Even if it is listening to people singing Psalms. Sunday School was really great when I was a kid. I retained a lot of that so when I grew up and started reading the whole Bible, I was already familiar with most of it. Then when I got interested in adult Bible studies it was easier to follow along. the names, places are familiar... The order of events. It is easier to do the "study" part when you are already familiar with the story. By the way.. About rightly dividing scripture. I think it might be a different thing. One of my pastors has drilled it in to my mind about law and Gospel. Rightly handling is one thing... And Rightly dividing is another. There is also another passage that makes it more clear about "dividing". It's probably about rightly dividing Law and Gospel. A pastor must know how to rightly divide law from Gospel. You provided a verse to show the importance of reading. There is also a verse about the Bereans that can show importance of study: Acts 17 verse 11 Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

Great point and perspective. The oral tradition of the Word of God was a huge thing, and I think hearing it is still very important. To the Sunday school point: so good! That’s like the “learning to walk” stage, and is so important.

Great video, thank you! A question for you. I'm making my way through the whole bible for the first time with daily reading. I can't wait to jump into bible study, but how would you recommend daily reading and study? I often wonder if studying a topic/person or whatever could take days, weeks or months, but your daily reading is a different book. Any thoughts on that, or is this just a 'new guys' issue. Something that just works itself out? God bless you my friend!

Hey Jonathan, thank you for the kind comment and for watching. I don’t think that’s a “new guy issue” as I deal with the same thing still. I tend to start studying a book that I’m reading in my plan, but then it does take longer to really dig in, so then my plan gets thrown off. My approach has been to allow my daily reading and the inspiration of the Holy Ghost during that time to lead me to what to study. Often times that will be a word, a question, or a thought in a verse. And it just stands out differently. Another approach I’m trying is when I don’t have a specific topic I’m starting to work my way through a book verse by verse. I have a goal to have a note for every verse of the Bible. Doing this acts as an anchor for me to have something to come back to work through systematically when I don’t have inspiration. And I’ve always found when having a systematic discipline that inspiration comes through that. Hopefully this helps! - Joel

Paul didn't write the Pastorals. Plus just because a command is given to another person does not mean it is for you. Maybe not with his own hands, but he dictated them. They do literally start by saying, “Paul… unto Timothy” Thanks again for the comment and the book recommendations. 🙏

@@jchart4 only 25% of evangelical scholars believe Paul wrote the pastoral epistles. The survey was taken at the British New Testament conference on Pauline authorship a few years ago (2012) so that probably the number is lower now. Something to think about and maybe look into why they reject Paul wrote or dictated it. Happy studying :-)

I’ll check it out, though I think we’re better off believing what the Bible actually says over the opinions of men. We see where not doing so has gotten religion. 🙏

@@jchart4 you're going about this totally backwards but maybe you're a new believer. All interpretations of the Bible are being done by you and they are being done by scholars. So no matter how you look at it there's opinions of whoever's reading the Bible and if one is reading into the text something they already believe then they're going about it the wrong way. Everybody has an interpretation on what the Bible says and you don't seem to understand that yet but all you have to do is look around and see different denominations and biblical Unitarians and Jews who rejected the Messiah and what the Messiah should be and why the King James version is incorrect because the manuscripts are not up-to-date, etc. Anyway I'm just gonna leave you alone because eventually you'll learn. Take care. If you are a new believer I don't think you should be doing a KZitem channel on the topics you're talking about and if you are not a new believer then you're just gonna do what you're gonna do and not learn anything

you need to study these issues. Just because it says Paul to Timothy doesn't mean it's true. Jesus didn't return and Paul's message was always jesus is returning soon, very soon. In Timothy they are selecting elders and pastors and church govt. You need to get some good commentaries
