The species with the botanical name Gymnanthemum amygdalinum is popularly known in Brazil as boldo-baiano, boldo-alumã, boldo-do-mato, boldo-indígena, boldo-de-árvore, boldo-africano and figatíl. In some Spanish-speaking and English-speaking countries it can be known as bitter leaf, African bitter leaf, among other names.
Boldo-Baiano originates from Tropical Africa and is now introduced in Brazil and spread across many regions of the country. This plant is a bush recognized as a medicinal plant due to its therapeutic properties, serves to treat various health problems and has medicinal properties already proven by scientific studies.
Boldo-do-mato or boldo-baiano tea can be made with one to two leaves per cup, it has a light and palatable flavor, as the boiling process eliminates part of the bitter taste.
