Very interesting piece. Loco still have they name plates, but the coaching stock suggests it is close to the end of steam. The Southern sets of coaches seem to be breaking as they acquired BR MK1 full firsts and other maroon vehicles to form the 4TC. Some earlier, in the late fifties, we got round the shed going pass the coaling stage despite the sign. My older brother went first, closely followed by me and finally my mother Auntie Florey who could not believe she would wondering around the entrance to the steam shed having met us for a day in Bournemouth with her grand-nephews. The women did not get pass the coalers, but we got round the shed down the left hand side across the back and ask for permission on the way out having got several cops of dead engines hiding in the shed. Did not realise then that I would regularly travel through BoMo in the early 1970s, with the dividing of Weymouth portions continue the back of a Cl 33 and being pushed onto the back of the REP for Waterloo.

What a lovely film, brought back so many memories of when dad used to take me down there in the summer when staying with my grandparents who didn't live far from Bournemouth. We would usually visit Central and West and dad would often ask the shed foreman if we could look round, I don't ever remember being refused and on one Sunday afternoon the foreman gave us a guided tour. Happy days, happy memories.

I had a little time there in the early 60's. Wish I could have had more time at the station and less time on the beach. This is a great video even without sound.

Suggest this could be autumn 1965. 73001 would have come off the S&D from Bath Green Park and was routed away from Bournemouth West. Fantastic memories. Travelled over the S&D to Bournemouth twice organised by Cotham Grammar School Railway Society. Wonderful memories.

Lots of old friends here, especially 'Spitfire' 'Dartmoor' and 'General Steam Navigation.' Probably late 1964 or 1965 as the M7s had gone and 41295 had been allocated to Bournemouth at the end of 1964.

Never been to Bournemouth but I spotted a number of the West Countries and Merchant Navies further up the main line towards London, when I was young

What a wonderful video. When I see the steam engines I just wonder if my dear dad was driving as he was based at Bournemouth. He even took me around the old loco depot as a small boy and still remember looking up at the size of the loco and the noise.

I have the same thoughts - my Grandad, Jack Gardiner, was a fireman and driver based in Bournemouth at this time too, so they almost certainly worked together. Then my dad, John, became a driver there too in the 00's. If only they were recruiting...!

What memories as a child my grandfather traveled from sheffield to bournemouth west over the S and D and then after that shut we used to take him to the central station to see him off In 1974 I started my working life on the railways doing a 20 year stint before I took redundancy in 94 when everything was being privatized Would by any chance is there you have anything on the west station

I wish they would repurpose the shed. It would be ideal for mainline engines today. + The middle line through the station. Empty carriage stock etc.
