In the UK we use a lot of herbs and especially spices. Admittedly you will always find someone who likes and only eats bland food but that's the same in most countries. Our cuisine is influenced from all over the world. Just remember a, quarter of the world was under our rule at some time so we brought back the foods from overseas. We have used spices since before the Romans arrived in the British Isles. I have travelled quite extensively in the States and to be honest it's a great place to lose weight. I find a lot of the food greasy and tasteless and artifical as well as being expensive so eat very little when I'm there.

Watch their channel regarding the British school boys and Korean food! Josh grew up in Korea and is married to a Korean wife. Most of their humour is tongue in cheek, thanks to Olly’s gross sense of humour. 🇦🇺😂😍

Britain's official dish isn't actually Fish and Chips. It's Chicken Tikka Masala. You can't really comment on Britain's food until you've been over here and tried it.

Those guys are Josh and Olly, whose KZitem channel, Jolly, I’ve been following for several years. Very entertaining content! Josh grew up in Korea and his wife is Korean, so all of their videos have Korean subtitles. He’s well used to Korean foods and introduced a bunch of British schoolboys and their teacher to a lot of Korean adventures, including a trip to Korea.

Plenty of Fab UK food. Think I read US misconceptions about UK food goes back to WW2, UK went through years of food rationing, and US soldiers here took their opinions back with them. Try Chicken Tikka Masala, sounds Indian but invented in Glasgow.

The Myth about bland food in the UK came from the GI's returning after WW2 where we had gone through 5 years of Rationing so the food was extremely bland and boring..weve had centuries of spice flowing into our country from Roman times and through our Empire, so dont knock it till you try it.. And i agree KETCHUP IS SHIT!!

Regarding your ketchup question: I actually use ketchup for three dishes: When I make a cocktail sauce, when I make steak tartare, when I need something to dip a Käsekrainer in. 🙂

I recall reading somewhere that lobster was once considered servant food. So much so that there are records of laws in maritime Canada restricting how often they could be required to eat it. iirc French delicacies like frog legs and snails did not emerge from times of plenty. I wouldn't be surprised if most recipes for them date back to the "let them eat cake" era.

Josh and Ollie indeed are familiar with flavours, spices and hot food. The biggest portion of food they have covered over the years is Korean. American food is just way more heavy on sugar and salt. Just because they are enjoying the stuff they are trying, it's rude to compare them to cavemen discovering fire.

Some of the Louisiana cooking has Cajun roots. They were refugees evicted from what's modern day Nova Scotia by the British. At the time Louisiana was a French territory so many emigrated there. The decedents who managed to stay or moved back call themselves Acadians. If you say it with a thick accent and filter it through becoming an English word you can hear how one name became another.

These guys try pretty much everything that's edible, which is very brave of them. You're right to mention that the State of Louis-iana was colonised in the name of French King Louis XIV, hence its name, and the area was under French control from 1682 to 1762 and in part from 1801 (nominally) to 1803. That (some sort of) French should still be spoken there today is awesome. But, as far as food is concerned, I don't think that the very hot, very spicy food is of French influence : French food is seasoned to enhance the taste of the food, but not to the point that one would only taste the spices, and not the main ingredient! It is more likely due to the African slaves' influence. I find that, good as they may be, the dishes presented here all look like cat vomit, and being served in disposable, single use plastic "tableware" is really off-putting. See here a French experience, in a not particularly "fancy" place: "Lyon: The Food Capital of France - Rick Steves’ Europe Travel Guide - Travel Bite" (on YT) Bon appétit !

Food in the UK...indian, korean, chinese, greek, japanese, jamaican, italian, french! In fact there are 89 different cuisines represented in the British Isles, is that not diverse enough? .caveat.we also love traditional British fayre like sausages and mash, roast beef or lamb dinners and as many different lies that you can imagine, but they are certainly not without flavour, we love our not curries, garlic etc...however, our Mexican food is apparently not good..lol.🇬🇧😃✌

Soul food is nothing to do with slaves 😂😂 It’s mainly French inspired food! Is was a French territory after all. Claiming collard greens is southern food is rather funny. The Greeks have been making collard greens for the past 400 years 🤭😉

You’re incorrect, yes collard greens did not originate in the U.S., but a lot of the ingredients used in the cuisine and methods come from the African slaves that not only brought food from Africa through the save trade, but their knowledge of and cooking traditions as well. Furthermore, black soul food extends far beyond the former French territory And depending where in the south you are, the soul food has a unique way of being Prepared.

The US obsession with food in the UK being bland comes directly from US soldiers who visited during WWII when the whole country was under rations...They expected burgers and hotdogs during a global war. Quite odd when you think about the state of US food sold today. "Diversity of cuisine"? So slop sold as actual food. Everything is either fried or "re-fried" or caked in anything to disguise the dreadful quality of the meat. I am from the US and the food by comparison is hysterical. Nothing in the US is fresh. Everything is "coated" to cover up a multitude of sins regarding animal handling and welfare. Keep it. The UK do not want this.
