True I also love the deep growl from the W16 on startup and at no rpm they sound great and like no other, and without deafening all nearby.

There is a good reason why straight 8s were discontinued decades ago. This is basically two straight 8s put together in a V configuration. Such a long crankshaft under that amount of RPMs is simply not going to hold up for long without bending and breaking.

maybe the building materials have improved over the years and now it can be done reliably (to an extent, at least)

The v configuration makes block and crank well- braced and strong. Straight 8 too long and narrow.

Yep that’s amazing! A flat plane big block 507 cid V16 turning 9,000 rpms!?! Truly insanity. Cosworth is a legionary engine engineering facility.

Awesome! I've always thought that V16's sound like extremely angry V8's. The W16 was an awesome engine, but the feral scream of this new V16 made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up....

I remember the intro to Forza Motorsport by Jeremy Clarkson talking about these performance cars to be a dying breed etc. Beautifull little film I must say. Really struck me back then. While in a way it is true, on supercar level we've seen the most bonkers cars ever produced since then. I'm so glad for it.

The sound almost reminds me of a racing boat with multiple V8s, which I guess makes sense. But it definitely does have an additional higher note since it's revving so high. Can't wait to hear what these sound like on the track.

BRM just called, and they didn't say they want their engine sound back, they said the harmonic cadence we hear is an inevitable consequence of engine configuration and firing order, then of RPM, then lastly of the fluid dynamics of the paths the gases take, with some cursory respect to the unsung skill of the audio engineer recording this video.

The Lexus LFA V10 however that VW V10 in the Audi R8 and Lamborghini Huracan just sounds amazing as well - also love the sound of a V8 especially with a Wipple Supercharger .. yes I’m very indecisive.
