What beach is this in the Bay Area?
@PacificaFisherman

Grey Whale Cove, which is a small northern separate section of Montara State Beach. It has its own parking lot as well on the East side of Hwy 1. I think I actually show the drive there from Pacifica in one of my previous videos, but it is just south of Pacifica on Hwy 1. Once you go through the Devil's Slide Tunnel (Tom Landry Tunnel), it will be down the road about 1/4 mile on the left hand side.

As usual a great video filled with great practical info. How is it that there is no size limit on the perch. You seemed to have had a great day made your numbers in a short space of time. Will join you at the "clean and cook."

I guess it is because they are plentiful and not in danger of running into short supply. The CF&W (Fish and Wildlife) keeps tabs on these kind of things and then makes adjustments in the fishing codes/laws each year. But it has been quite awhile since they have changed the regulations on perch. I think the biggest possible threat would be if an oil tanker crashed and spilt its load into the nearby ocean. The last time it got slow around here was when that ship ran into the Bay Bridge and spilt oil. It was for quite awhile and made a huge mess. As a kid, I saw what that kind of thing did to the local fishing at Venice Pier (The Santa Barbara oil spill). It was so big that it changed things considerably for quite a few years.

No doubt there may be some bigger fish in the area that also like eating the small silvers. I know the smaller seals and sea lions like them.

Yeah, I 'll try to throw some stuff in there on equipment when it comes up. Someone else had mentioned that as well, which is why I did a segment on equipment this time.

I tried that before and it was more work than it was worth. Plus, I got the timing on the cooking down to a tee with this method. But I could always try it again sometime if I can remember to.

Not that I've ever seen. Way to easy to catch. While may have to get a little wet easy to get with cheap small holed net. As a kid or with kids when making sand castle creations saw all the time.

I think there are some places on the East Coast where they actually sell them, but have never seen them in a bait shop out here. I think it might have to do with the legalities of commercially harvesting them, but do not know for sure. Recreational fisherman can only take 50 a day, and that should be more than enough for one fisherman. I was reading in a on line fishing journal years ago, and it mentioned something about how they were offered at a bait shop in some Eastern Coast state, but I don't remember much more than that. Plus that article was kind of old and might be outdated due to changes in the law.

Great videos. I learned a lot. Thanks! I suggest you mark a few marks on your fishing rod for the lengths you use most so you can just hold the line with the fish against the marks to measure the fish. No need to pull the measuring tape out every time.

What's up PF. Would you say Martin's beach is more rocky than gray whale cove?
@PacificaFisherman
6 жыл бұрын
Yes, definitely more rocks at Martin's Beach, all over the bottoms of the south part where it appears to be mostly sand on the shore.
