Does it help with side visibility at all? That’s my only complaint about my volt in the 3 years I’ve had it I can’t see shit when I’m going around tight curves at night

Hey Robert, basicallyI sharpened the ends a bit and just "back probed" them into the back of the harness. Ill take another video in the next day or two and send you the link. This probably isnt the best way of doing it. I did it this way because my car is leased and I didnt want to do anything permanent. Vehicle has been this way since the video was uploaded and continues to work fine. Has not come loose once.

Hi there, does the DRL still come on during the day without the headlights?
@jonboy545

Yes. This mod makes the DRL LED "always on." If you want to disable the DRL led, the easiest way would be to remove the DRL pin from the harness (the better way of just cutting the wire) It may be able to be turned off via software but I don't think there are any "tuning" handhelds out there for the volt like there is for other cars. In normal operation when the headlights are turned on the DRL LED is turned off. The diode allows current to flow from the headlight to the DRL, but not the other way. If you jumped the two pins Without the diode, the LED driver in the body control module would try to power the 55W halogen headlight and would overload it instantly. The result would be either a blown driver transistor in the BCM or it would just shut down. The LEDS do not have a "fuse" they are powered directly from the BCM.

jonboy545 thanks for the fast response. Great knowledge. What do you mean by "always on"? I do not want to disable the DRL.

I just mean that the diode keeps the DRL on when the headlights are turned on. In stock form the DRL turn off when you turn the headlights on manually or when they come on automatically. So by "always on" I mean whether the headlights are on or off, he DRL is still on. If you put the headlights to "Park Lights" (just the yellow lights) DRL is NOT on. Hope that clears it up.

Hello, is the headlight and the day time running light the same bulb?
@jonboy545
7 жыл бұрын
No. In the Volt, the DRL is a separate LED. The headlights are regular halogens. 9012 I think although I ran a modified 9005 bulb for more brightness (have to dremel out the tab in the bulb so the plug fits).

Cool, thanks for replying.....I'm trying to figure how to get to the DRL.

I've never removed the headlight module. I'm fairly certain the LED will be on a circuit board with some kind of voltage regulator or resistor bank. I don't have my volt any longer (just turned my lease in last week). Good luck!
