5 years ago I was naturally messy, struggling with my adhd, had never been taught how to clean and thought that I was condemned to live in an environment that stressed me I had the most wonderful friend who helped me tidy and taught me how to clean and then I discovered cleaning videos and now after 5 years of slowly building habits I can proudly say I’ve mastered cleaning and organizing and have become minimal enough to maintain it all! It’s so satisfying to see you on this journey as well as I see my own past I still am naturally messy I throw my stuff everywhere but with my morning and evening routines I’m able to now tidy my doom piles daily ❤

@@nataliebutlerPlease look into the Flylady system. She has saved me from my messy house. I will never be able to thank that woman enough for what she has taught me. I now have routines and habits in place that keep my home clean. And it's easy now! It has become second nature because my routines are habits. I just do them without thinking. I used to wait until the house was wrecked before I would clean. All that did was wear me out and leave us living in a mess the majority of the time. Because you marathon clean and then are too tired to do anything else. It gets bad again and the cycle continues. Flylady has baby steps and she slowly teaches you to build habits and routines into your daily life so that it becomes second nature. And she does it slowly so you don't get overwhelmed. I truly hope this helps you!

My Mom & my aunts put all their time & effort into all the cooking & chores - housework was much harder & took longer back then, but, they never played with us kids. So their floors & bathrooms & fridges were always spotlessly clean - clutter was never allowed to pile up. My Mom vacuumed everyday at 3PM before kids came home from school! Younger siblings were still napping. But where are the memories of play with Mom, which my cousins & siblings & I should be able to cherish now that they are gone? What’s funny is not a single one of us girls is a good housekeeper! (Boys never did indoor chores in those days!) We prioritized time with family & friends - further our education, etc. when we were raising our kids & got back into the full-time workforce when they were still young! Our kids have many happy memories of Mom playing with them at home & in parks, cycling on bike paths, skating, researching kid’s school projects together with them in the library (pre-Internet days!) etc. I feel sad for my Mom & her sisters - they didn’t get to enjoy their children as much as we did ours!

@@htmc2022 my mum never came to school or other such events but I’ve made sure to do all those with my kids… it really is the little things. Our home growing up was always spotless and my bedroom was always like a bomb hit it and my mum wouldn’t allow me to learn a process to clean it - it was always just done. One comment when I was a young mum in my early 20s was how could I be so messy and untidy since I’d grown up in a spotless home.

Yes…it’s very important to monitor children when they eat. Years ago, a friend’s baby was eating carrots while running around and playing. At some point, carrot got down the windpipe and into the lung which resulted in a hospital visit and a procedure to extract the carrot. That story freaked me out, so when we had our children, they always had to sit quietly when eating…thankfully, my son, and daughter-in-law follow that concept religiously with our grandchild. And a great by-product is a better digestion.😋

I am a 72 year old lady with 4 daughters and my life has been blighted by the compulsive need to have the house clean and tidy. When my children were little and then became teenagers, I nagged and bullied them into my mindset. How I regret it now, so very much. Two daughters are very tidy and two are not. Seeing your oh so wonderful videos just reinforces how brilliant your mindset is. Your wonderful commentary lifts my spirits and makes me so relaxed and happy. I feel as if I know you and love you. The other is fussy, but untidy. Her clean laundry sits in a pile cluttering up the floor for days until she has time to fold it like an origami swan, and put it in colour coded rows in her dresser drawers (perhaps a slight exaggeration). I am here to tell you tidyness is a habit that can be developed over time! Between leaving a room better than I found it (whether that’s fully straightening up or just relocating one item) and doing a regular “1 hour better” I have drastically improved my tidyness and it is so manageable now.

Dear Remi, I feel that some (me included) have gradually over time fallen to a more or less extent into the consumerism culture that corporate retailers have strived for. I count myself fortunate to have turned myself around from that just 3 years ago and as a result my house has turned from mess to sparkly and minimalist. As a young boy growing up I had very few toys not because we couldn't afford, but because my dad believed in few and quality (which of course meant expensive), they were well used and didn't break and the few that I kept as memorabilia lasted into my twenties. Ive proved to myself over and over that its not about not cleaning enough, but more about not having much to cause a mess. Just a slightly different take....there I got that off my chest 😀😀

But you gave me the energy to stand up and do something - because I told myself that it will take only 30 minutes and in the end of the video it will be done. Also tomorrow morning it will be nice to see a fresh pile of ironed a washed clothes, not dirty ones and waiting for iron.

Just found your channel and wanted to tell you how utterly liberating it is to see a perfectly normal home and a perfectly normal family. You seem like a wonderful mum and person. I myself love to sort things, but HATE cleaning. With a six month old baby I can already see the challenges ahead. Thank you for sharing your life with the world and contributing to a more accepting point of view. We really don't need to put more pressure on ourselves or others. New subscriber here, obviously! ❤

This was great, and you're lovely to share it! 💜 Very motivational, and the long voiceover was not boring at all. Felt like 10 minutes, at most, seriously. Like listening to a friend talk about her day 🌞

Found your more recent videos and decided to come back to the start 🥰 We are so similar except I'm a neurodivergent aussie mum and I have 3 kids, 12, 8, & 4. I don't work and even MY house gets out of control! Love your videos, I feel like you're making a film of my life! You make me motivated to clean or tidy up, or just to feel ok about myself being present and leave the cleaning until tomorrow. In the midst of packing our house to move, I've been feeling so slack in terms of cleaning, being a good mum & wife, and I feel so much better knowing I'm not alone! Keep it up girl, don't let judgemental comments get to you. When you said that judgemental comments are nothing new compared to what we've said to ourselves really resonates with me also dealing with PPD with all 3 of my kids as well as depression, anxiety and ADHD. We all have a lot on our plates, and our best is always good enough! Also sitting in wee is the WORST! You're not alone! Much love, all the way from Australia ❤❤

I also just found you and can I just say that I received more help and guidance listening to you for 20 min than any counseling I have spent hours in. Thank You So Much!! I'm so sorry, but I have to add this right now that at 21:48 I had wiped away tears of relief and started to laugh when your baby began walking through the laundry covered in melted tissues. I raised 5 children (all grown now) but that was such a relatable moment - I completely fell in love with you and your family. And in my humble opinion sleeping together as a family has been done around the world for hundreds if not thousands of years and there is no evidence of moms, dads, or the children becoming mental over it. Some people (like you and I) don't require a lot of me time. A lot of our "me" time is fulfilled by doing for and/or being with our family and a few close friends. Most people mean well but just don't realize that even though we are all look the same from the outside we can be do different from each other on the inside. Big Hugs to you from Idaho in the US.

You aren't boring at all and I like to hear how you share your thought processes. We may not have much in common but I can still learn from you!!! I really appreciate your carpet cleaning method. I've never tried the razor but I have a spot where some glue dripped and I'm going to try it.

I am so sorry people made negative comments after your evening routine video... And so glad you didn't let that discourage you into stopping the making of videos! So many are too quick to criticize anything which is different from their practices and habits and often do so in malicious ways. They never stop to think how it would feel if someone said these things to them about their choices: too involved in producing and sharing misery. Most of us know what goes into the daily existence of having a family and recognize there are bad days at times. Being able to cope with them and have faith another good day is on its way is important and I believe you do this actively, consciously. You are doing a good job! You are a lovely person and mother.💖

Watching this just gave me an idea for parents who could always use money, have too much stuff, and have generous family and friends that like to spoil their kids. Ask everyone who gives gifts at birthdays and holidays to just give you the amount of money they were planning on spending on gifts, and just give cash. Your boys need good food and shelter and heat/AC and water, etc. So people shouldn’t think that giving the parents the money instead of buying the kids more toys isn’t benefiting the kids. It’s a win win win. People can be generous and know their money is going to a family they love and will benefit them, you won’t have more stuff piling up when it’s obviously not needed so the place will be easier to keep under control, you can use the opportunity to teach the kids lessons about generosity and financial responsibility, and you’ll have help with paying for things that are actually needed to support your family ❤️

My mother had a plaque that now resides in my home. It says, "My home is clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy," I have always liked that sign. I am so glad you try to be upbeat. My mother always said to, "that if you can't say anything good, then don't say anything at all." And finally to all those who felt criticizing you made them feel big. My mother said, " When you point a finger at someone else, you have three pointing back at yourself." If people would remember these three perhaps they would not have the nerve to criticize someone else's brave efforts and the world would be a better place. I find the fact that you keep your head up through it all a heartwarming trait you should never lose. Remember money isn't everything. I have known families with money and things that were very miserable and families with only the love they had for each other make them very happy. I always say, " If I have food in my belly, a roof over my head and true friends numbering only the fingers on one hand then I am truly one of the most blessed people on the face of the earth.

My children are all teens and I’m quite far past this stage in life, but having adhd (which I didn’t know when my children were small) isn’t something that you outgrow. I appreciate content that normalizes our struggles. We don’t want to be messy or cluttered, yet, we are. Your judgment fee space is refreshing. I didn’t comment there but your house cleaning for your auntie was so inspirational and heart warming. God bless you as you endeavor to be your best at being a mom and helping others.

As a family, we have too much ‘stuff”. So hard to keep things tidy but we keep decluttering, donating and giving things away. Luckily, when I had my young family, I said “No eating or drinking upstairs” (apart from water, of course) - told them it would encourage mice. Thank goodness that I did. When I see friends children’s bedrooms with snack wrappers, pop cans and biscuit crumbs everywhere I remember how lucky I am not to have to have this EXTRA work at home - oh, yes, and no mice! Also, a few years ago, I decided that NOTHING was to be left on the stairs - health+safety etc! If anything is to go up, it’s left at the bottom of the stairs and partner, older child or myself will take it up and vice versa for the way down. Rule is: whoever goes up next, takes what is a safe amount to carry with them. This works for the way down too. Works a treat. Having a clear stairway is good to look at and no fear of stepping on something and falling down. So just these 2 little ‘rules’ have made such a difference and have saved me doing loads more tidying than I need to.

I got your video in the recommendations yesterday, and subscribed immediately! Typically I don’t like voiced over cleaning videos but yours actually so refreshing! You actually clean and your house looks like mine! Normally I’m a tidy person but with foster care my priorities shifted so I had to let some things go (cleaning in the same way too). So your videos are so great - I don’t feel bad after watching them!! And also I think you have a great sense of humour! Thank you for putting the videos up despite’s the critical comments and unsolicited advice!!! Your videos are making a difference!

Oh let me tell you! The angries can come after me now….we co-slept when they were small to get the sleep we needed…..our 2 are now well-adjusted non-fearful young adults of 32 and 26. They are both out on their own and call every now and then to check up on us. One is in Greensboro and the other in Raleigh near us. Independent law-abiding happy little people. I’m on your side. Our pediatrician recommended we do what suited our family and we did. Stay strong and ignore “those people”. I enjoy your videos. Glad they popped up in my feed.

I agree with everyone that compliments you on your empathy and thanks you for the videos of an ACTUAL house that needs “tidying”(cleaning)!! I have watched so many “how to clean when you’re depressed” or “how to clean when you are overwhelmed” and those houses look better than mine when it was CLEAN. You have helped me so much when I couldn’t find anyone that understood or could help me. I am a hoarder and it got way, way, WAY worse after losing my son in 2000 (he was sick from birth and should have never lived, but I had him for almost 3 years) and had 2 older children, 4 years and 5 years, when he passed away. My mother was my rock and kept me going, but then she was taken to heaven very unexpectedly in 2007 and my life spiraled downward…with, now, a 7th grader and an 8th grader. My first 2 grandchildren came in 2014(my daughter adopted 2 brothers ages 2 years and newborn). I was on a lot of medication by then just trying to be “functional”. My kids grew up in it and now my grandchildren (7 now ranging from 2 years to 11 years) are having to grow up around it and it is killing my heart and soul!! After watching ONE of your videos, I was motivated to get up and clean at least a small trail from one end of one room to the other!! My washer went out in the meantime so I am having to take my clothes to my daughter’s house to wash them. But then I have no way to put them up once they’re clean because I can’t get to my closet or chest of drawers. I have now been back in the bed for 5 days and was able to finally watch another one of your videos and I am GOING TO GET UP AND DO SOMETHING!!!! I’m so excited and grateful for finally finding someone who can help me and actually understands what I am going through so THANK YOU FOR YOUR LIFE CHANGING VIDEOS!! God bless you and your beautiful family ❤

Oh, I’m certainly no hero!! But thank you so much for your kind words ❤ My 2 living children respect and adore my mother-in-law WAY more than they do me. And one granddaughter is the only grandchild that wants to come see me ❤️🩹 I’m so hoping that, if I can ever get my house decently cleaned up, that other family members might want to come visit me…I’m pretty doubtful about that though. Anyway, I am going to keep trying for my granddaughter and maybe by the time she’s 16, I will have succeeded…she just turned 6 🤷♀️ I’m pretty down right now, so I am about to watch another one of your videos! Thank you again so very much for being in “my world” and helping me at least TRY to change my life for the better. God bless you and your beautiful family ❤

I took naps with my kids. We cuddled up on my bed with a quilt and a book. I read to them at naptime and bedtime. At night sometimes i had to lie down with them until they feel asleep. If they were sick i had to put them in our bed and snuggle/comfort them. No shame in this. Ignore those who criticize.
