This movie and the first Dirty Harry movie had a big impact on Smith and Wesson model 29 sales. Although at the time the .44 magnum was near the top end for power it was quickly surpassed by the .454 and later the.50. However, the .44 is still a powerful weapon and I doubt anyone would want to look down that barrel from the wrong end. My college chemistry professor had a picture on his office wall of this ending scene with the inscription...Go ahead. Make my day. So cool. Clint you are the greatest.

The waitress was played by Mara Corday, who had a number of film roles in the 1950s, including "Tarantula" which featured a young Clint Eastwood as a bomber pilot. After Mara's husband passed away she ran into financial problems, so Clint gave her roles in some of his films so she could make some money as well as keep her Screen Actors' Guild medical and retirement benefits. Clint Eastwood was always a class act.
