We are becoming a little obsessed with anti aging… life has to have some fun. Eat Whole Foods, stay hydrated, sun protection, Retinoids and Vitamin supplements. Let’s not forget how important genetics are in how your skin ages. I have hardly any wrinkles at 58.. few spots and never wear sunscreen on my face because I feel like I can’t breathe. I don’t spend a ton of time in the sun anyway. Love your dedication to inform us.❤

Some people commenting just don’t understand balance or the fact that wearing sunscreen, sun glasses, hats and sun protective clothing doesn’t stop you from going outside and enjoying it or that eating healthy means you stop eating or adding exercise into your week doesn’t also stop you from enjoying your day but it can make you live longer and live a healthier life like keeping your joints in good health and bones since we know lifting weights is good for bone health.

Great video. This whole acceptance by people with mindsets that you have to love getting older. What actually is getting older/aging? It’s the cellular deterioration and breakdown of our bodies hormone system, neural processing, collagen breakdown , muscle wasting , decrease in organ function , etc. You have to be nuts or just plain lazy not to want to do all you can to avoid all the damage that comes with cellular aging. Also practicing kindness it’s wonderful for the soul and anti aging. Also Research in saunas have demonstrated they are beneficial to longevity and reversal of our body’s ability to restore cellular function in many areas. Thank you for all your insightful, informative videos. Many of us would be lost without them. 😊

I'm all for longevity, and not a fan of romanticizing getting old either. That said, I think it's more about coming to peace with the aging process taking a toll on your body. Nothing wrong about trying to slow it down with a healthy lifestyle. But learning to become equanimous about getting older, practicing gratitude for the youth you got to experience, and ultimately accepting these losses. It is what you'll need to learn so that when you reach old age eventually, you don't end up like the various aging celebrities with appearance complexes. Once you've reached a certain number, society won't judge you for looking old, but trying too hard to look young.

I def think stress caused some aging in the last year. Became extremely depressed this last year and having breakouts and from just being sad seemed like my face started some sag in the mid face. My forehead is ok and neck is still tight and not really much aging there. Just cheek lines deeper and mouth is turning down at corners. I’m 47 and people think I’m 15 years younger regularly. Don’t smoke, drink, tan, or eat a lot processed food. I have never been overweight. I think maybe it’s hormones too that could be causing the issues. Going to look into that. What do you think about visia skin age scans? Do you think they are accurate? It said I have less sun damage than 70% of others scanned. I don’t have many sun spots or pigmentation. Thanks for these videos. I love that your are very honest about your procedures and what you do to maintain great skin and beauty.

I was curious, on the topic of “smoking” here in the US cigarettes, and tobacco are common, but so is marijuana. So when you were covering that topic - are you speaking to both? My assumption was that being in the presence of smoke itself is a created irritant for the skin and causes collagen breakdown. I LOVE your infos! ❤But careful, in University we just learned, that plant based milk is even more (or equal) inflammatory because of vegetable oils high in PUFAs (poly unsaturated fats) which contain arachidonic acid and produce prostaglandins. Which is why arachidonic acid should also be avoided when somebody has an inflammitory condition such as rheumatism. It also causes dark spots on the skin and is the reason our eyes and liver get worse as we age. I would recommend to avoid PUFAs and instead eat oils such as olive oil, fresh salmon (omega-3-supplements have been found to be carinogenic).

@@u.n258I don’t think “looking plumper than ever” is something to boast. It’s actually a sign that your body is inflamed and getting too much fat. Thank U Dr Kappel, This, and All your content really informs and educates in such a lovely manner! Today's episode you created, you mentioned to not confuse having oily skin as a positive when I always was a little confused bc I realized excess sebum is not something ANYONE wants.. but we lose lipids as we age....but I hypothetically I used 2 think 🤔 if I had 2 choose a skin type I'd choose "oily skin" bc I have noticed many women with oily skin and no excess serum do not age at accelerated rate but I feel like an idiot as I'd get excited over any oil I get on my dry skin at almost age 40! I hope that makes sense! I take my words back NOW that I understand how to decipher skincare knowledge and research that is credibky sourced bc pores don't want something weighing them down unless it's an oil cleanser which I do use to remove make-up and know oily skin types that do as well but also go over with a cleanser and other products to absorb and Mattify! Thank for explaining so eloquently the importance of SPF! I really admire what U do! Thank U! ❤❤❤

I went to get a facial (the appointment was a gift from a family member). The lady put a warm probe on my face, she told me she was using it instead of steam. When I asked for the device's name, she told me she didn't remember because she had a lot of equipment. It felt nice but now I'm worried it may cause damage, have y'all heard of any like this? Toward the end of the facial she put on another probe and told me it was radiofrequency, she told me that the temperature was 80 degrees. Again, no name for the device was provided... should I worry? Any ideas of what these devices could be?

Anyone touching you face should be able to not only tell you the name of the device but the the mechanism of action and its effect on the skin

Dr. Stefani, This was an amazing video filled with information. Green tea causes my heart to pound out of my chest, so I do drink 1 cup of coffee per day. I pretty much follow everything you said. Do you believe in Botox or is there something better? Also have you heard of this sun coast serum that claims dermatologist do not want the public to know about? Their claim is to completely change your skin for the better.

Thank you for this great series. You mention that oil is not good for the skin, what about these plant oils that are deemed to be good for the face, like castor oil (lots of hype on KZitem now), rosehip and others?

Something I would love to ask a professional that I trust (you!) is.. do the jade rollers actually do anything for skin? Do they actually help products absorb better or is it just getting all over the jade part? Does the action of rolling it across your face do anything at all? Basically would it benefit me to start using one or not? What about gua sha? Thanks !! Xox

This whole list can seem overwhelming/excessive, but I'm not taking it as a suggestion to worry over ALL of it. Rather, it's more of a "Here's the landscape. Make whatever informed decisions are best for you." Know about the major degradation vectors and choose ones that are easier or more palatable to address. For example, I'm not giving up coffee (it has plenty of compensatory benefits), but I will now be more mindful of how high-sugar foods might affect my skin or whether or not I have a second cocktail with dinner, etc.

How do we protect the skin from blue lights? By the regular sunscreen? If so, we need to wear sunscreen all day long. It’s ok to sleep wearing sunscreen ?

Great video as always, ❤ I can't wait for next week I love to take care of my skin and health. I had Ellacor 3 weeks ago but still have the marks on my skin. My Dr. is giving me red light therapy for 20 minutes 3 x week. I thought I was going to heal fast since I eat clean, exercise, don't smoke, don't drink etc.etc. Any thoughts? .

Dr Kapella MD, For someone who doesn't drink caffeine, would u suggest a reservatol supp?, or decaf coffee/green tea/black tea? For antioxidant, polyphenol, &/or reservretol properties to enhance collagen production DAILY? (I don't drink alcohol and the only processed foods I have never have any corn, seed oils, or sugar as I have been sugar free for Years! But eat berries whether they're fresh or frozen daily? Or do I need a collagen powder? I recently learned of toxic metals in some Dark Cacao so I opt for certain powders to bake with quick baking go-to recipes and meal prep help a lot! Cauliflower rice bags I know I don't love using the microwave so looking for an alternative way!... but any advice on the first part, please for someone VERY sensitive to caffeine w/ sleep issues trying to combat it with Neurological regimen as we speak and moving out of a toxic environment literally? I have done research that adding cream halts the effects of coffee, teas...and having decaf may not be as effective?? Would there be any use for adding decaf in? Or extracts U recommend instead?

Coffee polyphenols are also metabolically protective, so I am skeptical of the idea that caffeine in coffee is bad for your skin but caffeine in green tea isn't. I'm sure that whole bean coffee that isn't super-dark roasted has more polyphenols than heavily-processed, pre-ground coffee, or coffee that is super-dark. what's your understanding of the action of polyphenols in coffee?
@DrStefaniKappel
6 ай бұрын
I actually published an article on in medical school. Polyphenols in coffee are chemoprotective against mutations and free radicals in the skin.

Hi Dr Stefani! Isn’t dairy good to help maintain our bones? Because it’s high in calcium and calcium from plant sources isn’t absorbed as easily. So wouldn’t consuming dairy help with preventing osteoporosis and bone loss? Or should we try to have raw dairy or fermented dairy like Greek yogurt? Are those things healthier for us in terms of aging like less hormones in the dairy?
@tiffanysalerno
6 ай бұрын
Pretty sure yes. Raw dairy is super healthy and fermentation (like yogurt) is as well (as long as it doesn’t have a bunch of added sugar!).
