I started with the same radio, but I am using a Slim Jim antenna by N9TAX in the attic. No luck at hitting a repeater about 30 miles away. Built a tape measure Yagi to see if that would help, but no luck this far. Something big must be in may line of sight for that one. Great video man!

Did you drill a big enough hole to pass the indoor connector through the wall, or did you have to cut off the connector and install a new one after passing it through?

If you put it in an attic, it won't require a ground/ground wire. That's what I did, and it stays pristine, no wear from weather, and in the attic, it's already high off the ground. Provided you don't have a metal roof, or a lot of electrical wires near the antenna, it'll work just as well as if the antenna were outside on top of the roof.

all antennas Have to be tuned Even if they say they are factory tuned. this is due to many reasons most of which is grounding. 73's
@fotomotoxxiii
5 жыл бұрын
Explain how you tune a sealed antenna that has no tuning tip?? Only way to "tune" it is to take it apart and shorten the wire. Meaning swr will possibly get a hair better on one band and worse on the other. They balance it well from factory. Swr of 1.4 or less.

Mr.G Disabled2Able antenna tuner inline device. Please watch my antenna tuner video and watch comments.
@Captain-ku2rm
3 жыл бұрын
Well, the antenna tuner doesn't really tune the physical antenna, it electronically adjusts the mismatch between the antenna and the radio. But, theoretically, the antenna is probably cut to be resonant on both bands at the factory. Only an SWR meter will confirm that, and even if it's not a perfect match, under 2:1 SWR, there's probably no way to physically alter the antenna without screwing it up. So, the only option would be to add an electronic tuner if the SWR is above about 2:1.
