In this Physics video tutorial in Hindi for class 11 we explained the law of conservation of momentum in two dimensions (2d) with proof and did equation / formula derivation for the conservation of momentum in two dimensions. We will learn, from this video, the concept of the momentum conservation with the help of arrows, where each arrow will represent momentum as vector.
Like some other physical quantities the momentum of an isolated system is also conserved, i.e., the net momentum is constant for an isolated system even after collision, whether elastic or inelastic collision. Whenever two or more bodies interact in an isolated system, they apply force to one another. Take an example of two body system. If the first body applies force of magnitude F to the second body, the second one also applies force of same magnitude on the first one. But the direction of forces are opposite. This is the basic nature of force. Forces come in pair. Hence, the change in momentum happens in both the bodies, but in opposite directions. So we can say that the net momentum is same after the interaction. Here, interaction means collision or gravitational attraction, electrostatic attraction or repulsion.
To start this video the previous knowledge required is Newton's third law, meaning of force as the rate of change in momentum and ofcourse the law of conservation of momentum for one dimensional motion.
This video is helpful for students of CBSE, ISC or any other Board and IIT JEE and NEET aspirants.
