In this Physics video lecture in Hindi for class 11 we discussed the maximum and minimum velocity in simple harmonic motion and we also derived the magnitude of the maximum and minimum velocity. The speed is minimum ( zero ) at maximum displacement and it is maximum ( ωA ) when the particle crosses the mean position. As in simple harmonic motion velocity v = - ω A sin (ωt) and speed is the magnitude of velocity, hence we can say, speed, |v| = |ω A sin (ωt)|.
Here ω is the angular velocity of the SHM, A is the amplitude and t is the time elapsed.
So, |v| is maximum when, |sin (ωt)| is maximum, i.e., sin (ωt) = 1 or -1. And it is minimum when, |sin (ωt)| is minimum, i.e., sin (ωt) = 0.
