I've had similar issue's with several compressors. Seems it's not the reed valve's but the check valve going into the tank.

Nice repair! Thanks for sharing.

You're welcome. It lasted about another year, & then started to pump only up to to 80lbs. or so. Believe it's the reeds in the head now, & they're NLA of course. Could probably fabricate something, but have not tried.

Yep, I bet it's the reeds too. Back in my youth, in the early '60s, I worked for a company that sold and serviced heavy equipment including air compressors of all sizes from 1/3 hp to huge multi-cylinder stationary ones used in heavy industry. They all operate pretty much the same! Good luck with it!!

do u remember if the rubber piece that screws onto the top of the piston was plyable or was it kinda ridge? the one in my kit was kinda hard and now I can hardly get past 80 psi. and the kit was over $60!

I don't recall, but can say this one here only goes to 80 Lbs. now also. Lost out on this one too. Have not gone back into it. Was thinking the reed is bad, but maybe not with your info. It did go to 120 for a short time after this, then only 80 now. Let me know what you find.

+Farmradio thanks for sharing. I will keep you informed. I also incorporated a 2 hp motor with a 1" shaft. so I had to machine out the head to house a bigger bearing. also the sudden torque from the stronger 240 v motor shattered the plastic cooling fan. so I replaced that with a propeller fan pushing air and a squirrel type fan pulling air with an abs elbow aimed at the head. both from a microwave and part of a stainless steel blender housing as a scatter shield. in case the head assembly decides to come apart under load. haha. I hope not. that might be hazardous. it's a real hick lookin pos, and I got alot of time invested. incedently I thing I also replaced the reeds upon rebuilding. I'll post a vid as soon as I figure it out. thanks

great job, something puzzles me, the cfm you get at 40 and 90 lbs are much greater than todays compressors. Is it because the tank is stronger ?
@Farmradio
9 жыл бұрын
I'm really not sure, however the guy who gave this one to me cited that the CFM of this one is what I needed at minimum to run an air cutoff tool. He said it's better than the new ones I was looking at.

If those numbers are correct you saved your self a lot of money, it takes 220 volt compressors to get those cfm # 's and lots of dollars. Love your channel, just starting to repair old radios , its a steep learning curve and channels like yours makes it easier. thanks a lot .

The numbers are bullshit, are overated input air, not actual, since then they are lying less now from lawsuits.

I'm not sure. I had to scrap this one after the reeds failed, & were NLA. Shame.

That's a shame. It was scrapped, a few years ago. It failed a 2nd. time, & couldn't find replacement reeds for it. Would've pulled the fan aside!

You have to use bungee cords to hold it together what happened to the screws you need need to quit jumping back and forth on things and explaining it thoroughly if you're going to be a good repair person
