Miss Ellie was full of common sense and compassion. She could put the men in her life in their place with a good tongue lashing when warranted. She treated Sue Ellen and Pamela kindly. Miss Ellie was the best Ewing.

What you didn't show were the big emotional scenes where she broke down crying. Like when she heard Jock's helicopter went down and when she came to terms with his death by smashing plates in the kitchen. Always brings me to tears when I watch those scenes. She is brilliant.

That final clip of Miss Ellie taking off Jock's glasses is one that I find to be so tender and difficult to watch. Jim Davis was so frail at that point and it must have been heartbraking for Barbara Bel Geddes' to do that scene knowing that Jim wasn't going to get better. Original Dallas (1978-1984) is just magical...

Very Classy scene... reminds me of the golden age of Hollywood. Dallas had a nice way of mixing saucy and classy, especially during those early years.

WTF?!! 2:59 - 3:13..... How on earth did they manage to clone Jr, so he can bé standing right behind Miss Ellie, and standing right in front of her fighting with Bobby at d same time. As far as I know they still can't clone humans in 2018, so how'd they manage it in 1982/83?!!..... And if you were gonna clone a Ewing, WhyTF would you pick JR?!?! I was only a baby, or napping away in my mummy's tummy back then (born Jan 83),and watched dallas on repeats in the 1990s, but they managed some superhuman feats on Dallas: heck, I'd have found Sam's shenanigans on Quantum Leap more believable than some of the shit they pulled off on Dallas! And my God, they say the 80's was the decade that forgot fashion... No Shit Sherlock!! They look like they dressed themselves by going into a Charity Shop and blowing it up each morning & they just pulled on whatever mismatched pile of junk that happened to land on them in the fray; Then, while the wiring was still twisty & dangerous after the bomb, all the ladies did their hair by licking their fingers and sticking them in the nearest smoking socket on the way out. And don't get me started on the makeup!! Clearly a daily competition to see who could wear the most OF EVERYTHING, but especially Eyeshadow :every gaudy colour you possess, altogether, not just over your eyes, but all over most of the top half of your face. With a bonus prize for 'Who could scare the most children'.... Jaysus, when it comes to the 'fashionable look' of the 80s, its F-ugly as Fcuk!! The poor victims!!! Is it any wonder that the 80s was the decade when it suddenly became fashionable for everybody to have their own 'Shrink' & visit several times a week.... If I had to wear myself, AND see it everywhere I looked to the point of burning my eyeballs, that gaudy, tacky, "cowboy chic meets bag lady wot lives in a shopping trolley, with my Grannies ugly, old, window "lace" thrown in somewhere" I'd need a permanent residence in the local Asylum meself!!

I had long admired her career. But somehow I did not ever see her as "Miss Ellie." Bel Geddes was more Bar Harbor, Maine; more Kennebunkport, Maine, than Texas. Had she been around I would believed Texas' Oveta Culp Hobby more. But Hobby was not around. So I discovered another formidable actress with Texas credentials who would have been more believable. And that was Margo Martindale.
