Thank you Dora ( & your family) for sharing this journey, I hope your recovery is fast and incident free. These videos are such a help for anyone waiting for similar surgery,the nature of the process,braces,consultations more braces etc mean that any patient has time to dwell on what’s laying ahead for him/her and to be able to experience it due to your videos is very helpful. Keep up the good work.

Heyy ! I had the similiar surgery but with the rotation of my jaw. It’s been 14 days since the surgery. First day I was bleeding from my nose and also vomitted blood 3 times. I started talking like after couple of hours. Then started to drink soup and fruit juice. On the second day of my surgery I tried to consume mashed food and actually it went well. For now, I’m still not allowed to chew anything. But if you’re reading this comment and want this operation done, just know that It worth the pain. The result will be perfect :)

@dorasdoublejawsurgeryjourney
Жыл бұрын
Hi Helene! My encouragement to you would be to remember that you won’t have any food in your stomach that could possibly come out, if you do vomit. The only substance that could be thrown up would be liquids (blood or spit), so you can rest assured that if you do throw up, even though your mouth will be shut, you will be able to get it out. Also, something of note will be that your body will most likely be operating on autopilot the first 12 hours after surgery. Meaning: your body is going to take care of you, even though you will be worried and unsure, your body will know what to do. I especially like to be fully in control of myself, but I was super impressed to see that even though I felt like I had little control over myself, my body knew what it was doing. I wish you the best of luck for your journey!!

@@MaxPower-cm6ie Hey there Max, at nearly a year post-op now, I’m doing phenomenally! Everything is back to working-order when it comes to chewing and eating - actually, things are even better than ever in that regard. My teeth actually touch, enabling me to chew like never before. When it comes to numbness or pain, the areas surrounding my chin, where they cut for my genioplasty, is both sensitive and slightly numb. It’s an odd combo, for sure. I have feeling, but if I press hard, it’s tingly, and if I pinch, it hurts much more than it should. But when it comes to the actual jaw surgery, I don’t recognize any numbness or pain at this point. Hope I was able to answer your questions! If you find that you have more - let me know!

@@MaxPower-cm6ie Off the top of my head, I can’t recall, but I do remember my surgeon saying it was about 14mm of movement total (top and bottom jaw combined). I want to say that the movement was pretty even for top and bottom, meaning 7mm average for each, but again, I can’t say for sure! I’ll be meeting with my surgeon next month and will be sure to get exact numbers then!

What about the metal plates and screws they put in my jaw? Are they permanent?
@dorasdoublejawsurgeryjourney
Ай бұрын
Hi there! Yes, the metal screws and plates are permanent. They’re used to hold your jaw bones together until your bones fuse back into one piece. It is less invasive to leave the screws and plates in after the surgery than to take them out after. But they don’t affect you negatively or anything!

Hey D! Yes, after I was put under, they gave me a catheter. However, they took it out as soon as I woke up from surgery. In my previous video, I talked a bit about my fears regarding a catheter. However, having now gone through the surgery and recovery, I realize that the catheter should be the least of one’s worries (concerning how intense recovery is). Going into it, I really just had to remind myself, “nobody cares,” when it came to the catheter aspect. If you’re looking into this surgery, I would 100% advise you not to let the catheter stop you from getting it! Hope this was helpful. If you have anymore questions, let me know :)

The craziest, and coolest, part of double jaw surgery is that the entire surgery is performed from INSIDE of the mouth. Meaning: no external stitches! This would explain the super swollen lips, as I’m sure they had to do a lot of stretching to enable my surgeon to reach in there and move my jaws 😆
@mfranck1

@@dorasdoublejawsurgeryjourney Wow that is really crazy, cool, and amazing. 😀 I didn’t know they can do that! I need to have double jaw surgery, but different because the joints need to be replaced. It really varies on insurance as well as what surgeries you need plus where you live. For my underbite surgery and and genioplasty my surgeon quoted me $17k (this is without any insurance). Keep in mind this doesn’t include hospital bills for the stay or anesthesiologist or the braces even (which are also expensive). It’s not cheap at straight cash value that’s for sure. Again this is just my personal experience and will differ for everyone.
