I have this model in this colour. £615 ($800) and that includes tax. I got it earlier this week and I'm hugely impressed. I own Fender USA Deluxe & Ultra, a USA PRS Custom 22, Mike Lipe USA custom made guitars, a few PRS SE models, Fender Japan, G&L USA Comanche and two Gibson USA Les Paul models, 16 guitars at the moment and nearly all cost a lot more. But this Revstar Standard is a great guitar and I'll most likely be using it a lot. It really holds its own against guitars 2 or 3 times the price. It's 8lbs, 2oz, but it's perfectly balanced so it just sits right on a strap or your lap. The satin neck is amazingly comfortable, the rosewood fretboard is beautifully smooth, the stainless steel frets are finished very nicely. The pickups have superb clarity and definition. There's absolutely nothing to dislike about this guitar. I'm comparing apples and oranges here but if you look at what you get for £615 (mahogany body, set mahogany neck, stainless steel frets) against a PRS SE Silver Sky which is £895 and has a cheaper poplar body, bolt on maple neck and nickel fret wire you can really see just what a good value guitar the Yamaha is. I don't know if you can get a better guitar for less than £1000 except for maybe a Shijie which are also incredibly great value. You can't go wrong with one of these. Thank you Yamaha, great job.

Hi. Great review. Great guitar. Its ergonomics seem to suit many people. With different height and build. It sounds great too. Lots of different sounds. The focus button really works and brings original colors to the sound. The shape of the guitar clearly has the features of Les Paul - Double Cut, Rickenbacker, PRS Castom. But in my opinion, this is not just a tribute to the legends of the past, but a deeply artistic rethinking of design and giving it modern lines and colors. A great success for Yamaha and a gift to the musicians of the planet. Unfortunately, it is very much necessary to abstract in order to discern the contours of the once popular motorcycle. The company has a great opportunity to implement this idea more clearly in the form of a single kata. Something in the Art Nouveau style of Les Paul or Telecaster. Good luck.

I played this yesterday. I have like 10 guitars. It was unbelivable especially their pickups. The Indonesian guitar played better than the Japanese. On the rare occassion I almost bought it… it’s still running in my head though I tried the SG1820 which was way too heavy and didn’t play as well as this one. For the specs, neck binding, rosewood fretboard and pickups the guitar is awesome and so undervalued.

This is a great demo. I have to say tho I think their dry switch on humbuckers was more useful than this new focus boost. All the demos I hear with the humbuckers sound muddier. The P90 version seems to be a better match for this type of switch.

I've owned a number of Yamahas, including an intro level Revstar a couple years ago. My issue with that ax was that it was way too heavy, had no countours which made it feel blocky, and the neck was a little too thick. The higher end models are a lot better and I will by trying one out. Quality axes. I played an SG 200 for years which was the closest thing they made to an SG knockoff. Great guitar. I didn't even change the stock pups, which is something I do to almost every ax. I changed the stock pups in the Revstar. I tried a number of DiMarzios and Duncans before settling on a Duncan Custom 5/Jazz set which sounded great. It was just not a comfortable guitar.

I think these new Revstar's have really moved the game on for Yamaha, very thoughtful improvements. They do seem brilliant. Great to hear it being played be a proper musician as well. Just on the 'graphite rods''... seeing this more and more on guitars these days. Is there a link with that and the difficulty these days in getting good quality wood for guitars? It's just a thought, maybe a way of using cheaper wood thats perhaps not as stable - forcing manufacturers to included things like neck reinforcement? This is just me wondering btw I have no idea.

I got this last week, it's really an excellent guitar, its sounds were driving me crazy, but I had to return it because the neck felt like a real baseball bat; it was too big and made it very difficult for me to play certain arpeggios or change chords quickly. I've been looking for an guitar 'off-the-shelf' guitar for pop-punk/easycore and this might be the ticket maybe? My other guitars are heavily modified and I feel like I need something that's gonna fit the bill out of the box. That said, this boost is weird. It sounds like a low-mid boost, which I do not like at all. It sounds way more full and without the boost.

No guitar is ever too cheap ... Yamaha is playing honestly with its customers (and it should be applaud) delivering guitars following high end quality standards at the right price ... a piece of wood, some pieces of metal and plastic, with the oldest electronic that exist on earth (almost over a century) should in no case cost over a thousand euros/dollars ... Custom Shops' or Luthiers' made, ok, all the others ... nope.
