Dr. Brian you gotta do an analysis on Spencer Dinwiddie’s injury too! I have so many questions like is a partially torn ACL as severe? is the recovery as intensive? How bad would that feel vs a fully torn one? I feel Ja's pain...every time I've sprained my ankle in basketball, it's been my left ankle, and almost always after trying to block a shot. I was third in the league in blocks last season, but I had to adjust my timing and anticipation a bit to prevent injuries like this. I don't want to change my play style too much, as blocks are a big part of my game (same with rebounds), but at the same time I want to avoid injuries, so it's a tough call, lol. Great video, doc!

Spent about 10 minutes on the ground with the pain shakes (was honestly more pain than when I broke my tibia). Took about two days before I could put really any substantial weight on it without it being excruciating and 6 weeks before I started running and jumping again. All in all I still get residual pain here and there over a year later... no fun, hope it all goes well. Sprains are no joke.

I had the exact same injury when I was in high school (grade 3 ankle ligament tear) and I was never the same player after that. I was able to fully recover within a few months, but ever since that injury I was always scared of jumping for a rebound or to contest shot whenever an opponent is nearby me. As a stretch big in high school, this severely hindered my defense capability and ability to crash on boards and I forced to convert my play style to strictly become a shooter. From my experience, this injury is not hard to physically recover from, but is very hard to mentally recover from it as every time you jump the thought of you hearing the gunshot-like-pop from your ankle sticks around for the rest of your career. I wish for a speedy recovery from him though. I’d still want to see him dunking over bigger defenders in the league.
@JohnDoe-lk9vo

in summary, the immediate and prolonged treatment: RICE. Rest, Ice packs on injured joint, Compression on joint with bandage wraps (ice pack held up inside bandage wrapping ideal), Elevation of your injured joint above your heart if possible, like on a recliner with leg propped up some more so that blood can circulate better and speed up recovery process. Once the joint pain is manageable, get MRIs to asses the damage and wait 1-2 months to do any surgery that may be required, and then another 4 months post any required surgery with RICE and rehab and will be able to play by end of season.

that's a severe injury, hope morant a speed recovery. the injury situation seems unavoidable, that's too bad.
When you're that young it's easy to feel invincible and be ultra aggressive on every play. In a way this might be good for him so he'll learn to pick more meaningful plays to be aggressive. Developing that decision making is something that is useful as you start to age and need to be more efficient
