I actually had a nurse turn off my O2 alarm when I was recovering from brain surgery. It kept going off because I breathe irregular while sleeping (not sleep apnea, just extremely slow breathing), and it kept going off if I took too long to inhale again, and she was sick of running in and panicking, and waking me up for no reason. Finally got some rest, but can't help looking back on it side-eyed. Good thing there was never an actual O2 emergency, I'd have been screwed 😂
@christiinaa16

there’s parameters on the alarms. it’s usually set to alarm if O2 saturation drops below 93%. sometimes patients hover around 91-92% (normal for them) so i’ll decrease the parameters to alarm if it drops below 90%. Doesn’t stop us from knowing about an actual emergency

I was 14 and had just attempted suicide for the first time. It’s a long story I was raped a lot as a baby don’t ask... But I was in a group of beds altogether separated by a curtain. The guy next to me had come in with a bunch of police officers and was handcuffed to the bed. He was extremely drunk and had ended up killing three people including a child. At one point his mom just started going off so he unplugged it and then he just ripped out his IV and pulled the rails off the bed and walked over and pulled the curtain separated us and said “ Mmmmmm hay there pretty thing” Before the cops came running and tazed him It scared the hell out of me. I was asleep and woke up to noises and seeing his iv drop to the floor and blood spilling under the curtain like a horror movie Some people just have no common sense or any sense at all. This man had no sense. None.. driving drunk. Then pulling out his own iv and whatever other things he was doing but he pulled out plugs because I saw them on his bed But who dose these things? Even high as a kite who thinks ok let’s do these things because it’s ok? I smoke a TON OF WEED and I never stole a car drink and killed people ya know?

I haven't quite confirmed if nurses are happy or annoyed that I know how to work all the equipment now. Some seem relieved that dont need to pop in every 2 mins to reset the pump at the end of a med bag. Others panic. The panicky ones usually need my help setting the titration on the TPN later on so.... ^^This is what happens when you are an unusual chronic patient and spend way to much time connected to tubes.
