Last Saturday we caught this hunt in otter territory with their hounds searching for quarry along the banks of the River Soar in Cotes, Leicestershire.
Otters were nearly hunted to extinction until the otter became a protected species in 1978. Otter hunts then switched to hunting mink instead. However, with otter numbers now recovering we are hearing that hunts are pursuing their old prey again when they can.
Once we caught up with the Dove Valley they were unable to get away with hunting now saboteurs were there to expose their sordid activities. So, the huntsman, Will Shaw, who we spotted in a red coat at the South Notts Fox Hunt last season, reluctantly pulled his hounds out the river and took the hunt on the walk of shame back to their vehicles.
Peak District Hunt Saboteurs generously gave us a lift on this day so if you'd like to support us please donate to them to keep us out stopping hunting: ko-fi.com/peak...
