This footage is old. I absolutely love the contrast between the white glimmering snow and the musky brown almost black forest waters. There is something magical in the way they talk to each other. As my archives are starting to overflow and new material is also accumulating. It was time to do something or just plainly start trashing footage. I just had to try work on this one, just could not trash it... I've always liked this footage from four years ago, but not got to it. And it was also interesting to work again with not so good quality footage as I have had the privilege of working with more robust footage from the Lumix s5 a while now. So it was interesting for me also to see if this kind of older material still is usable. It was shot with my old old sony smartphone and my Nikon a900 and the timelapse stills with my Nikon d5200. The sony footage looks quite nice except that the autofocus pulsing ruined most of the shots (only fractions were usable), that is why I upgraded to the nikon a900 for video as you could not lock the sonys autofocus. The Nikon a900 is a handy piece of equipment, but the sensors dynamic range is awfull as you can see here (the scenes contrast is just too big). Even if the video bitrate is not that bad there just isn't the latitude there. So it was the right decision to first get the Lumix g80 (81/85) and then more recently the Lumix s5. The differences are exponential in the quality and ease of use... But in the end you do with what you have and in the end I think it ended up being a quite nice little video. Of course the sound part is crucial for the feel. I made a complex synth sound with addsynth in Yoshimi (ZynnAddSubFx) and created a dreamy floaty soundscape/music for the video in Ardour. Dream with me of snowy waters.
