When I was a kid my dad planted a lot of peas and butter, okra watermelon he sold it all where he worked. We did the picking all summer long. Our pay was a roof over our head clothes on our back and food to eat. You don’t want to work ok the belt came out. Then you were ready to go to the pea patch. With out with out the belt it’s was strictly up to you, but you’re still going no matter what. That’s the problem with this country now. Not enough kids getting the belt. Heck half or more of the adults need the belt. You problem is in Washington free money no work.

Ag majors in state colleges need to be out there helping and learning. Schools should make it a priority in times like this.

Hmmm.....you say the government is paying people to stay home and not work, which is why you claim you can't get anyone out to pick peas. I wonder, as a commercial farmer, how much is the government subsidizing your commercial farm???

Have you talked to local churches? Maybe local youth groups can band together and get it done? Not sure how long I would last, but if I were in the area, I'd come out in the evening and pick. If anything, I need to lose some weight. Thanks for your honesty and I sure am glad we serve a God who is a God of justice because the wicked are running the show right now. Keep fighting the good fight!

I can't blame anyone for taking a better paying job. Where does one sign up for free money?

Best workers we ever used were American Minority picked up from day work sites in town, they are even better then H2A in my area, you don’t always get the same workers each day, and you have to run a van to 2 or 3 nearby medium or larger towns but when we did that was always the best route. They always appreciated the opportunity, free ride & meal we gave then & had a better effort when on a piece rate. There seems to always be a few without transportation or even money for lunch that are happy to have a opportunity.

I'm 18 years old, currently picking peas for a local farmer, $5 a bucket, I would HAPPILY take that job offer from you. Free housing and utilities and $1400 a week? Man you can't beat that

Dang! Hopefully some people will take you up on it and come pick! I was thinking High School or middle school kids, or like someone else suggested some church youth groups. Crazy that the H2A workers don’t want to work either! Hopefully you find help soon!!!

Will you still need some picked over the weekend or will they be too hard by then? We're about 10 minutes from you and could pick over the weekend.

I understand it’s hot manual labor but wouldn’t it be better to walk down the rows and pick the peas that are ready to pick and wait for the bulk of the peas to mature that picking on half is a heck of a deal
