(This is not a personal attack, it’s more of a response to a general trend these days & as ur comment was #1, it was the final trigger for me having to speak out abt this) However, this notion that the first season didn’t inspire confidence is something I’ve been seeing repeated time & time again to the point where I just don’t believe some of the people stating that actually feel this way, or perhaps they’ve convinced themselves to feel this way to continue believing they naturally have whats considered to be the “correct opinion/stance” … I swear at this point it’s truly begun to feel automated, programed into us, r people just saying this because they actually feel this way or because they feel pressured to conform to the perceived general consensus ? .. Perhaps, born out of a desire to appear more knowledgable regarding trek (or film in general) & to have the correct cultural/film critic, outlook/opinion/stance, so as not to be overlooked or out rt disregarded ? … I almost fell victim to this myself upon my first watch thru, it was a lot to take in & so very different, as well as the fact hat each episode varied so heavily with crazy cliffhangers that watching week to week was a bit jarring … However, upon rewatching the series I found myself absolutely captivated and in love with it & I wholeheartedly regretted allowing the negative, close minded notions & viewpoints of a few reviewers, commentators, & content creators effect my own personal opinion & judgment so greatly … Granted on some level discourse is essential & our ideas do effect each other, but I think as a collective whole we all were just so taken off guard that we gave in to our initial rejection a bit to heavily & perhaps drilled that sentiment into each other a bit too much .. That being said if Im dead wrong & u & many others really were just that let down & underwhelmed then 100% I am so truly sorry, my sincerest apologies for wasting ur time with this & either way Im really just curious its not such a big deal, I just think the shows pretty hella fuckin awesome 😁 … Altho definitely weirdly paced at times & maybe a bit odd especially in the execution of a few aspects but not enough to detract overall, oh & i really loved the characters the second time around ^_^ x) … But anyways season 2 is gonna be better in every way so maybe this will bring more people around

@LordLOC

I think they want everyone to think it's connected but it is probably a coincidence more than anything else. Avery Brooks hasn't acted since 2001 or so as said in the video and unless they've kept it under wraps real good nothing has leaked at all about even a cameo. And they'd have to de-age him quite a bit since it'd be DS9 era Sisko not Picard era Sisko (from the alt. timeline I mean, since "our" Sisko is with the prophets) plus where would Bashir and/or Dax fit in? Did they manage to get all three actors to come in and it somehow not leak? I doubt it sadly. However, perhaps Q (or whoever actually changed things, maybe it wasn't Q who knows) used the Bell situation to change Adam Soong's future or something along those lines. I just wonder if they are even going to show the rich areas and sanctuary districts as they did in the DS9 episodes to line up with canon or not. If time broke after Q (or whoever) did something and then it diverged - the set up to the Bell riots and all that stuff was still the same until then at least.

I think JLP is an inflection point. His life and actions are an intergral part of the timeline, perhaps the multiverse. The Elder Q said " you are the very board upon which this game is played" . He told him youve improved in every way but the one that matters most". At the end of STNG he told him his improvement was not about physics, science or exploration but about becoming the ultimate expression of himself. We see in the scenes with Loris and the flash back with his mom that JLP is still neglecting important aspects of his psychological and, for lack of a more quantifiable word, spiritual growth. Thus he is about to fail or wipe away an important aspect of the " never ending trial". Finally, during the Academy scene he pointed out that he was " the last Picard" . Perhaps he isnt supposed/ meant to be. Perhaps Loris is/ was : the one that would help him confront his trauma, achieve catharsis , by extention epiphany, and stop the running. Could it be that a Picard scion is necessary to humanity's next step. Q introduced humanity to the Borg in response to JLPs qoute from Shakespears Hamlet: "What a piece of work is a man, how noble in reason, how infinite in faculties, in form and moving how express and admirable, in action how like an angel, in apprehension how like a god! the beauty of the world, the paragon of animals-and yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust? Man delights not me- nor woman neither, though by your smiling you seem to say so." Q asked "is that how you see yourself" Picard : what I think we can become, yes". We'll see won't we.

Something I find unsettling about this since I saw Ep2. The creator of Star Trek has an uncanny of getting predictions right. 2024. Just two years away. 1939 WW2 started two years later the USA entered it. 2022 War starts again in Europe will the USA enter again in 2024. The federation has always been based around the aftermath of a nuclear holocaust.
@emaarredondo-librarian

Please remember, Gene Roddenberry did create the franchise, but the episodes were written by a multitude of authors, the series run by different showrunners since the Original Series (Gene L. Coon, Fred Freiberger), the movies were designed also by producers and directors. USA participated in WWII by "lending" weaponry to the Allies before the Pearl Harbor attack. You forgot WWI in your account and many other events. Of course the franchise speaks about nuclear war: it started in the 60s, when the Cold War was hot, a missile crisis had just happened, and children practiced "ducking and covering" under their desks in case of a nuclear bomb hitting American land. There was also the Eugenics Wars in the 90s. Was that prediction accurate? The date 2024 most probably is related to the Bell Riots, which were featured in a DS9 episode, as a game-changer in Earth's (rather, American) history. Having several countries with nuclear arsenals as a way to "guaranteeing" peace has been always decried as a delusion. The current situation isn't an uncanny prediction, but a mere logical consequence. If any of the many creators in one sci-fi franchise had any predictive capabilities, Star Trek would have predicted the pandemics (AIDS, COVID), and prevented a lot of criticism due to its production's choices. Please don't mistake forced coincidences with predictive powers.

At 2:28 the Klingon skull shown is definitely not general Martok's. The ridges don't match. Actually the ridges don't match at all, completely. Those ridges are from ST:D Kling-orcs. Here's why the skull shown is definitely not General Martok's: look carefully at Martok's nose: it is slim like a Caucasian nose; then look at the wide nose-bone on the skull; that skull is from Star Trek: Discovery's "klingons" or rather kling-orcs, all of who have a wide "African style" nose with 4 nostrils (2 on each side), definitely not from ST:TNG or ST:DS9 Klingons.

After only seeing episodes 1 and 2, i have the following 2 predictions: 1. The Borg Queen that tried to assimilate the Stargazer in episode 1 is somehow Picard's mother. Think about it. 2. The queue are dying, Q is all that's left, and he will sacrifice himself near the end of the season to save humanity. You heard it here first. I have watched episodes 1 and 2 at least 8 times each, and this is what my brain came up with.

I would be surprised that General Sisko would be Benjamin Sisko. They didn’t say General Benjamin Sisko, they said General Sisko. I would assume that the prophets, no matter what intervention Q had to the past, would have still lead Ben to the same future of joining the prophets. I wonder if everyone is mistaken. It’s possible that Jake Sisko chose a different path and joined Starfleet, instead of being an author.

In a podcast a few years ago Jake ( Cirroc Lofton ) reportedly said that Avery Brooks had been blacklisted from Hollywood. I don't know the details if its true but I had always read that Brooks had retired from acting years ago. To this day and to my knowledge Brooks has not said anything publicly and I'm not certain if his former cast mates have said anything publicly but I have heard rumors that Brooks had tensions with Armin Shimerman ( Quark ) and the late Rene Auberjonois ( Odo ) during the series but again that is hearsay far as I know.

@@izi5150 Yeah I remember several years ago he was arrested for DUI. If that was his only DUI that hardly seems like something that would tank an entire career unless he was showing up to set drunk frequently. IDK we'll probably never know the entire story.

I am sure someone here has already pointed it out (I am too lazy to read all of the comments), but "...through a mirror darkly..." is not a quote from Alice in Wonderland (or even Alice Through the Looking Glass). It is a quote from the Bible, 1 Corinthians 13:12. In the King James Version it is: "For now we see through a glass, darkly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; but then shall I know, even as also I am known." In the American Standard Version it is: "For now we see in a mirror, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know fully even as also I was fully known."

The original reference goes back to the Bible's B Canon, err, the NT: 1 Corinthians 13:12 Now we see but a dim reflection as in a mirror darkly. Not surprised with PKD, though Christian references in ST depend on the writers and actors...

Easter eggs are the hallmark of a bankrupt franchise. Writing, that stands on its own, doesn't require constant references to earlier (and better) material to engage the audience. Easter eggs also hem in worldbuilding, making a large universe feel small. The previous stories had characters and locations that were relevant to those storylines. It was always understood that the world was much bigger than those particular characters and places. So if an obviously unrelated story within the same universe continually makes callbacks to the people and places of the prior story, it breaks the illusion that the universe is any larger than a few dozen characters the audience is familiar with.
