Thanks for the honest review! This new edition was a big hit with my group last week. After one playthrough of the basic rule set, everyone was comfortable jumping into the expanded content. It's definitely hitting the table again soon.

Great review. Just got the game and it is insanely easy to play and fun. I agreed with every bit of this review. Even the theme... the box looks like we should be sailors on a ship and trading, and fighting off Marauders, but the game plays like chess. Theme is low.

It’s 35 player discs per color, you should have 2 more for each color as spare (4 more for white color)

As I understand you always have presence in europe so you dont need to ship to a Fleet in europe first to occupy a city in europe like you said at 8:30

Totino is correct. Europe begins unlocked, so you can claim forts and/or fleets in Europe from the start of the game.

You don't enjoy strategy games? You have to calculate the best move each turn and manage your resources. With a beautiful board and the historical significance of the age of sail, it's a massive success. There are several clever mechanics like paying out your own workers and the attack option is a fun way to pass the time if you like stirring the pot. The exploits add depth if you get bored. Not sure how you could.

Im unsure about Endeavour vs Colonial: Europe's Empires Overseas, which is better in your opinion?

I'm going to order Colonial, now that you've brought it to my attention. Looks great. Age of Sail is fantastic though.

What's with the quality of your guys filming of late? I keep seeing chequered blocks of colour across the whole screen that hang around for 5-10 seconds then disappear for another minute...

I was not a fan of the setup time of the first one. Has that changed much or at all?

It's about the same. It goes faster if everyone pitch in.

Never played the first one, but I found that setup really wasn't bad because they put so much thought into having the components be stored in parts that could also be used during play (each player has a container for all of their tokens, all the buildings are stored in an easy draw container, etc). The only thing that really takes any time is placing the tokens on the map, but doing that by myself I've found it only takes a few minutes less with more people helping.
@QuantumMechanic343

The insert helps a lot with the setup time: all the buildings are organized in a tableau, the player's pieces are all self contained in their own individual boxes, and if the cards are organized they are easy to lay out. The only thing that takes time is putting the 95 tokens out.

yeah!! i feel the same way. Thought gonna be excellent with all the praised but only approval...Just played last night and feel very good about the whole game process. smoothy and straight forward yet still contains a lot strategy.

Probably best not too focus solely on the final scores. I mean, you look at the Shadows in the Forest game. That got rated a 6.0 (and would've been a Seal of Approval last year) for a game that the conclusion was "neat idea but doesn't work well in practice."
@KissellMissile

Do you reply to every seal of approval trying to "catch them out" on some inconsistency? I would say the same thing I say to my masters students when I grade their papers. A "B" is a commendable grade. To be "excellent," you need to truly be an exception among your peers, in this case, all board games being released.

Didn't dice tower say a while back that they 'upped' their criteria for what is approved and excellent? Only the best of the best get excellence, the ones you SHOULD have in your collection. Great games that may or may not be warranted for your collection only get an approval.

Seal of approval has,for me at least, always a more negative feel to it than I think you guys intended. Maybe because of the translation into German...? Approved in German is not necessarily good, but more like excepted...🤔 Anyway thanks for the review. 🙏🏻

Zee, what about the slavery aspect of this game? They even have a section of the rule book dedicated to covering this. Countless games involve imperialism and slavery in their themes, but none tackle the subject like Endeavor. Please address this subject in your reviews (ex: Santa Maria). What did you think of these designer's take on slavery in board games? Did this game generate conversations around the game table like the designers explicitly state they hope to do? I know this is a hot button issue in our country right now, but if Carl and Jarrett can be brave enough to write about this in their rule book, reviewers should be brave enough to talk about it in their reviews.

I have the game, and I like the game, but I do not care about this whole subject. I am glad it didnt take time of the review honnestly. I get that this is important to you and do not want to hinder your opinion, I just want to share that some (maybe most ?) people will not agree that this is a major part of the game that requieres reviewing. Even reading the author covering their bum in the rulebook was annoying and showing the sad state of current affairs. Regards,

@@SauerGustavo Political correctness itself is kinda stupid - not even sure what people mean when they use that term, honestly. I'm just a American History nerd who got a degree in philosophy and I think this stuff is interesting. I like to see how others use game design to explore ethical issues - it's cool to think about. Santa Maria, for example has a bunch of neat stuff to read on BGG regarding this topic. The designers intended that theme to be ironic and it created a huge discussion about it.
