When a Load is connected to a Generator, Load Current flows. Large Generators are Star connected. In these Generators, Load Current is same as Armature Current or Stator Current.
The Armature Current produces Armature Flux around it. Armature Flux interacts with the Main Flux or Rotor Flux and produces Retarding Torque. Prime Mover like Steam Turbine provides more Power to overcome Retarding Torque.
Thus Energy transfer takes place from Turbine to Generator.
