Yes thank you! It helped me out. Some videos I looked at had different year Astro's and wasnt the same. Frustration level went way watching yours. Now on to the rest of the tuneup.

I've got a 2000 Astro van that i just tuned up. The engine box was giving me a hard time coming off. I looked into the owners manual and it just pick up the box from the bottom and tilt it up. I did it came right out so easy that I laughed at my self for not reading up on it sooner. Good luck with yours. JN

I never had the owner's manual for this van, so I couldn't go by that. I always had trouble getting it over the seat!

I just figured out a trick to help get the cowl back down between the seats. After you move the front seats back, use two strips of duct tape placed diagonally on each seat from the inside front to the outside rear of the seat to pull the front inside corners back. That will open up the space so you can get the cowl in relatively painlessly. When you drop the cowl in, remember to drop the driver's side first so the "opening" is toward the passenger side.

I really enjoyed watching the actual removal where once it's loose in the end you hold your mouth just right and your thinking the magic words, then the cover actully comes out from between the seats so you can get to the engine bravo ! It would have been fun to watch you get it back in there.

Getting the doghouse (engine) cover off is a little tricky, especially on the newer vans. Put both seats back all the way. Pull the cover straight back, then grab it in the front middle, and tilt it back. Don't lift it, just rock it back. It's easy after you've done it 100 times

You also don't need a flat head for the top bolts. I believe a 13mm also works in those.

its 15mm.. I've done it today!

Yea 15mm. Serviced my neighbor's Astro in the past month. Besides the terrible dog house design, the rest of the stuff on there is fairly easy to access.

Good video. Showed all I should expect! Only 13 minutes including video at up time and awkward lug wrench. Seems forever in the video but in reality not bad.

So after all that you still can't see or get to the spark plugs? Mine's a 1996 Safari with two quick release toggle clamps to the floor but I haven't attempted removal yet. Hopefully it will be less hassle!
@Jeffnham

The easiest way to change the spark plugs is to take the tires off and go through the fender wells. You need long extensions.

@@Jeffnham Cheers, I'll keep that in mind. They were recently replaced by the previous owner along with the leads and water pump but I do want to retorque the plugs.

La verdad no sé que estaban pensando los ingenieros de GM pues tenía una astro 91 y la vendí y compre una safari más nueva y la verdad está mucho más fácil la modelo 91 de desarmar que las más actuales

Funny stuff I'm sorry but I have to laugh at you, because the engineering of these vans is freaking stupid I own a 2004 myself and I had to call the company to tell them to pay me for my beer because I was mad how dumb this set up is, but as time went on I figured it is best to leave that stupid cup holder gluv box crap off then I use a dewalt tool to remove all the bolts off the dog house then pull back from motor then lift up on the left side with the strap on the dog house above the drive seat right corner press down on seat then pull up on strap after you finish getting it off you send it back to Chevy with a bomb inside ha ha !
