Yeah, I know…….. I’m a little late with my participation on this feedback but life happened in a big way here and I’m just getting to all my YT vids from the last 10 days. Hope it still helps. As of today, my speeds are definitely better than the last time I sent you my speeds in April. I did my usual 12 speed tests and eliminated the high and low of each statistic. My #’s are as follows: * 108.5 download (up 34.5 mbps from April) * 11.38 upload (up 3.88 mbps from April) * 37 Latency. (down 8 from April) We have definitely noticed less buffering when streaming movies. It didn’t happen much to begin with but now is almost nonexistent. Fantastic video. Thanks as always!

Surprisingly, a convection microwave oven, or an air fryer, can match microwave speeds just using heat. And there are simple tests to test microwave ovens, they should seal tight as a Faraday cage. Rf coming down from the skies, and for cell phones, is something else again. The FCC is not totally clueless, ham radio operators must now actually calibrate and post their radiation exposure. Of course the emissions from the AC wiring in our homes may be the biggest culprit of all.

I wouldn’t go as far as everyone. But I agree that there are a certain subset of population that is very misinformed about it. My company performs power premises power quality analysis. There are people that will pay a substantial amount of money with the pre-conception that their home has a dangerous radiation level. Even after explaining the difference between the dangers of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, many still insist on moving forward with a sweep of the home.

Yep, even the old incandescent light bulb puts out RF radiation. Well, for RVs, the metal roof will protect the people inside. One thing not discussed is the RF output from the antenna. As I see it, the power levels will remain the same. I’m not too worried for the output.

IMO RF radiation in RV with device mounted on top of RV should not be a issue. Based on the uni directional phased array antenna. Which has a huge null zone (greater than -103db at 1’) underneath the dish. Love the video. You are first I have seen dealing with the increased duration time slicing. Frankly, people should be more questioning their 8 year old microwave in the kitchen. Or the ham operator down the street. In both these cases, the sad/crabby FCC and university RF “engineers” have gone way overboard with fake stats dealing with RF in this freq band being harmful.

That outage! I suspected it was an upgrade but the timing of it in the mid-evening was unusable. Since changing best efforts customers to residential, I can't help but notice a huge trottle for RV/Roaming users at night. Down to 25 would be fair and I get it, down to 5 mbps during congestion would still be acceptable but to throttle us to less than 1 mbps is not cool. Hoping this will improve. I found a Catch-22 situation for people like me that want to switch our service from Mobile to Standard. Many people are reporting that they are getting an "Error, please try again later" message when they press the button to move to Standard. This is because SL uses the current shipping address on the Mobile account to determine availability. If the shipping address is in a wait-listed area, you see the generic error message. This was confirmed in a ticket response from SL. If you are like me, where my shipping address is not the same as the proposed "service address" and my shipping address is "full," then it seems that you need to update your shipping address to the desired service address before you can switch the service plan. My Catch-22 is that my service address is not served by the US Postal Service. It's a cabin where there is no mail service. It has a legal address, but the USPS does not recognize it as a valid address. It seems that SL uses the same address validation process because it will not accept my "service address" as a valid shipping address. Ironically, if I plug the address into the SL website as a new potential customer, it recognizes it and offers to sell me a dish and Standard service for $90/month.

@@jcristina I've opened a 2nd ticket with them in another attempt to try and make the move happen. I explained the whole situation in the 1st ticket, but the tech must have zero'ed in on the comment about getting the generic "please try again later" error message and quickly (5 days later) responded with a "Sorry, that means there's no availability in your area" and closed the ticket. In the 2nd ticket I didn't mention the error, but instead said that I want to set the service address to our cabin's address, explained that there's no USPS service there and I want to switch from Mobile to Standard. I also gave the coordinates in case they can use that. We'll see what happens.

I wished the FFC would tell us how they derived the electromagnetic values. I think it is more of an educated guess much like Radon values. I seriously doubt that the radiation from a focused beam antenna like Starlink is even close to emitting harmful magnetic radiation for a human. When I was working in MRI we had to assure less than SAR value of 2 watts of electromagnetic radiation per kilogram of human tissue. I suspect one would get less radiation from a Starlink dishy than a cell phone. Assuming that one is not directly in the path of the focused beam. And even then, they would not come close to the SAR of the medical MRI system, CB, or other transmission devices. Also, I believe that one gets significantly more radiation from high-powered AM/FM/TV transmission towers that are on top of NYC skyscrapers. So, if one is concerned about Starlink radiation they should be more concerned about those other emitting sources- or live in a very isolated area ;-)

Do you know if the flat dish is compatible with the Gen 1 system, can we just purchase the new gen 2 dish only?

They different cables. Maybe Starlink has an adapter or solution.

Starlink knows when dishes are in use or idle. If they rolled at a blackout during early evening busy time instead of 3am deadtime, that's just stupid.

Reporting for Central Cal. Download speed took a dump. Usually getting about in the 70's and 80's at this time of the day (8:15 pm PST) and for the last 2 hours since I've watched this video, it's been as low as 16 mbps upload and often around 24 mbps, upload speed is actually on the good side at around 5 mbps. Just ran it again at 8:25 = 15.5 and 2.77

And Kuiper is almost ready for service, people assume because Starlink needed 1400 satellites that Kuiper needs that many too. However Kuiper is a higher elevation, so they need less satellites, will also have higher ping and is not designed for home use.

Kuiper is pronounced “non-starter”.. 😎 that is what happens to poor execution copy cats. Like the IP stealing ChiComs, Besos/Bezos maybe one day will get half way there.

I'd be curious about the EMF radiation. Logically, it should be on the receiving/transmitting end of the dish. I'd also expect that what is coming down from the satellite would be of significantly less power. However, that is just approaching the subject from logic. As you so aptly stated, I'm no expert on EMF radiation. 😂 For me, latency is lower and speeds appear to be on the upward trend. We'll see how this looks.

Fantastic. Like you. I’m have no idea how far the EMR travels around the unit. Guessing it would be concentrated on the face.

Same for me up in NW Washington. Maybe Starlink could ease the pain a bit by giving a "coupon" for purchasing from their store or by teaming up with streaming providers to offer deals on subscriptions. Just a thought... 15:24

Hopefully they offer a way to upgrade to a newer dish. I got in on the beta program and have the gen1 dish. Still works great but if i need to upgrade my dish to keep up with the networks improvements, I will. Not a fan of the gen2 dish, I've installed a few for people. I prefer the normal rj45 cable that the first dish uses. I'd like a gen3 dish that goes back to that.

I would be shocked if speeds just jumped up across the board up/down for everybody.... My gut tells me they'll use this to stabilize/improve speeds at the speeds in the TOS's, ... MAYBE.... kinda soft capping .... Thinking Residential ... 100- .. ~125'ish... sometimes.... But, .. should help to keep us closer to the 100mbs, more of the time..... Which "ISN'T" a bad thing.... He might throw you a bone and, up the up, but I doubt you'll ever see over 25, ... 30mbs at the very outside..... Just my $0.02 worth.... But hey.. I've been wrong before..

When I use my current 12" telescope and view the rings of Saturn and Mars for example if they were not there then maybe there is a huge GREEN SCREEN wrapped around the entire planet where these objects are being projected. Then again, that said, in today's society you would be hard pressed to convince some that you were actually a man, James.. Sadly!
