Fernando is a versatile world-class musician who keeps getting omitted from various "Top Bass Players" lists!!!! JT Lewis is an Incredible drummer!!!

Just incredible to now be able to talk man to man, through Facebook. Fernando is one of my heroes since he joined Lou Reed in 1981.

Fernando and I were in the string ensemble and stage band at Detroit's Pershing High. Played upright bass 2nd string. Learned a few things along the way.

And I must add that it was I who introduced him to Monk Montgomery, legendary bassist who is the brother of Wes Montgomery. Fernando loved his album. The music instructor would always try to keep us away from the jazz idioms.

Saunders is a fantastic bass player. What amazing musicians... Is magic. They played great concerts with the genius of Lou Reed (cursed artist). In this context i discovered them 🙌🏾

I got hip to Fernando as he played with John McLaughlin's One Truth Band with Tony Smith (drums), and then with Jan Hammer Group and they played with Jeff Beck for a little bit. This was before he and Tony joined Lou Reed. They were kind of a bass/drum duo. Both great players. There's some bootleg Jan Hammer live recordings with Fernando.

I bet he wouldn't really know me now, but he would have to be reminded of our time at Pershing High.

Your musicianship is superb! That JT Lewis is a good drummer as well . But my assessment of you, like always, is that you are the ultimate bassist. And where you are the most unique in comparison to other bassists in you speed for one thing, but your vibrato technique will never be equaled unless you mentor a protege.
