The loss of biodiversity is, alongside climate change, one of the greatest and most central challenges of our time. Renaturalized and disused quarries offer small refuges for the construction of nesting sites and provide enough habitat to contribute to the conservation of native species. Where insects and small creatures provide a livelihood as food, a species-rich ecological cycle soon develops. Many native animal species such as dormice, bats, dragonflies, peregrine falcons and eagle owls are at home here. Where pools and ponds are created, amphibians such as yellow-bellied toads, pond frogs, fire salamanders and great crested newts find important habitats and resting places in the quarries. What a wonderful and species-rich habitat. We should endeavor to protect these diverse natural areas in order to counteract the ongoing extinction of species. Because unfortunately we have already lost too many such habitats in the past. Apart from that, you can still find the wonderful sound of nature there.
