Funny how Larry Merchant tried to insult Floyd by bringing up the fact that spectators began to flee the arena after the 10th RD. That's because he was putting on a Boxing Clinic. I wonder what Larry had to say about the Canelo fight? I was in attendance for that fight, and after RD 6, Canelo fans were leaving because he was getting a boxing lesson from a master. Not because the fight was boring as Larry Merchant tries to point out. It's the art of boxing, not UFC. He has always hated on Floyd for some reason.

The thing about the commentator's opinions here, is the fact that Floyd stayed in the pocket for the early rounds, giving Baldomir every opportunity to do whatever he wanted to do. Baldomir either wouldn't or couldn't take advantage, and so Floyd decided to -- with his injured hand, mind you -- give a boxing clinic because he could.
@samsoniteman
8 жыл бұрын
What viewers need to realize is that Floyd wouldn't have never fought Baldomir if he didn't beat Judah for the WW belts. He did it to unify the division (which he still holds to this day 9 years later) to make himself a strong case to fight De La Hoya. Baldomir was just a road he had to take in order to get there. Anybody who knows a thing or two about boxing knew from the start that he was way out of Floyd's league. The final result was obvious.

Reason was Floyd wan't his type of boxer. Or I should say fighter. He liked Thomas Hearns type knockout guys.

RIP to the man, but he had a tendency to go with the narrative. Guys like Roy and Big George were much better because they didn't agree with everything Lampley and Merchant said. Idk if it was personal toward Floyd, he just didn't stray too far from the picture those guys painted.

This fight showed Floyd never even needed a trainer. He was incredibly sharp in the ring and knew what he was doing all on his own. Its kinda hard to hear the commentators though, they are reluctant to give him credit for some reason.

Larry merchant always says boxing needs a drama. He knows nothing abt boxing. Good boxing doesn't need to be bloody and even KO, which he dubs 'drama'.

@@Michael-ol2gv I like Ali, but he gave up on footwork and his defense was kinda trash even when he was young. He danced around and jabbed once in awhile then got hit by hard shots anyways. Then he had to trade just to stay in the fight. The hard shots he took showed after his career.
@Michael-ol2gv

@@guywhosellsvapes4595 Yes but Ali was a heavyweight. Its very hard to fight defensively in the heavyweight division. Ali might actually be the best defensive heavyweight fighter to have ever lived. Floyd, Jones and Leonard fight in a much smaller weight class compared to Ali. Compared to lower weightclass fighters, sure Alis defense looks trash but you compare Ali to other heavyweights not light or welterweights. Its like saying who punches harder Ali or Floyd.

Floyd is 46 today making 30-40 times more money in exhibitions than almost every fighter in the sport. He just made $35,000,000 in a beating on John Gotti III. There's a reason he can do that at 46 years old and its because he didnt take much damage throughout what was a long career.
