This video is about market gardening in Southeast Alaska, including making soil blocks for a late seeding of basil and a handful of pansies then later making the remainder of the soil blocks necessary for the whole season (failing again at using the new stand up soil block makers purchased last year); tracking birds in the garden including first appearance of stellar jay, the usual couple of robins, and a herd of fox sparrows finally digging around in the main garden after kicking around last week in the raspberry & potato patches (presumably because they prefer not to work in the hot sun) then all of the sparrows disappearing at the end of the week; repairing any holes in the greenhouses to ensure veggies are protected from the vegetable-gobbling white and golden crowned sparrows if they show up beginning of May; also harvesting baby greens from the greenhouses for the first time this spring in part to make space for seeding edge rows of a second planting of orach for later salad mixes then transplanting EazyLeaf lettuce varieties among the pac choi; anticipating that the fall planting of potatoes will be successful after digging up an intact potato in the spud patch; and sharing what I've heard about Wyatt bush beans and Scarlet Runner beans from local growers and receiving some Petite Blonde lentils that I'm considering planting.
