Fish curry#machli ka salaan #
Machli ka salan is a traditional Pakistani or Indian dish consisting of fish cooked in a spicy gravy. Here's a basic recipe for making machli ka salan:
Ingredients:
1000 grams of fish (any firm-fleshed fish like tilapia, cod, or salmon or Rahu works well)
2 onions, finely chopped
3 tomatoes, chopped
2-3 red dry chilies,
4 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
2 tablespoon red chili powder
2 teaspoon coriander powder
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
1/2 garam masala
2 table spoon coconut
1/2 turmeric
1 tea spoon cumin seeds
some cardamom/ clove / cinnamon
1/2 cup tamarind pulp
Salt to taste
Cooking oil 2 cup
Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions:
Clean and wash the fish thoroughly. Cut it into pieces if necessary and set aside.
Heat some oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them splutter.
Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
Add the ginger-garlic paste and chopped red chilies. Sauté for a few minutes until the raw smell disappears.
Add the chopped tomatoes / coconut/ onion make paste along with turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook until the oil starts to separate from the masala.
Add water to the masala to achieve your desired consistency for the gravy. Bring it to a simmer.
Gently add the fish pieces to the simmering gravy. Be careful not to break the fish.
Cover the pan and let the fish cook in the gravy for about 10-15 minutes or until it's fully cooked. Check occasionally and gently stir if needed.
Once the fish is cooked, garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
Serve hot with steamed rice or naan bread.
