George was a consummate entertainer, a gregarious character with a great rich voice. I hired George with John Chiltern's Feetwarmers many many years ago. He was a class act and it was a privilege to have briefly known him.

Saw them in Chelmsford back in the late 80's. Got a signed album. Certainly entertaining and quite a character.

This brings back memories.......... When I was 17 or 18 I saw George Melly sing this very song at the Bromley Court Hotel with an old mate Bob Birchell. Of all the acts that appeared this was the most memorable moment. Every Sunday evening it cost half a crown to get in and included a sandwich. Not bad value eh, I’d go again tomorrow and even pay double! Whatever happened to Bob. K
