I had friends who hosted an Italian exchange student and his wife. They _regularly_ cooked 12 course meals that ended with everyone drunk AF and singing along to the wife playing piano. I later found out wine in Italy topped off at about 10€ a bottle unless you bought at auction some shit Napoleon used to drink.

I lived in Italy 7 years ago and we had parties every week. I loved hosting because every time I would get up the next morning I would joke with my friends that the drunk fairy came by ( they would their forget wallets, ipads, shoes)! Oh I miss those days

I 100% agree with this. My sister lives in Italy with her husband who grew up there, and the dinnner parties there are just the best. So much wine but it doesn’t make you sick. My sisters rehearsal dinner for her wedding was a great one.

It gets even better when homemade wine is involved. As my family has a small, non-commercial vineyard in the hills of Veneto, everytime we have or go to a party, wine is not measured in bottles but in _damigiane_ (very big glass jugs, 20+ litres each). What can I say, we Italians love our wine.

It’s fantastic, typical ragu style recipe. Although most Ragu would start off by frying some pancetta before adding the celery onion and carrot. Genarro contaldo has an easy ragu recipe on KZitem!

I think one of the biggest differences between europe and the states is that what we would call "a good time" they would call "having a serious drinking problem" paraphrased from jessica knapett. But yeah, in my restaurants we have a warning on the menu gor tourist to check the alcohol level of the beer they order because this is Belgium and lots of our normal beers are about 9% and Americans just cannot handle that.

It's more like a drink or two before food, drink or two with food, drink with pudding then another drink after if you drink when eating

@@NateDawg3211 I’m not 100% sure, the recipe is either a form of Ragu or Genovese, Genovese often use slow cooked meats that are typically quite firm and fall apart when cooked for a long time, it’s definitely beef but it could be a chuck joint, or some braising/stewing beef, that’s typically what we call it in the UK anyway. Genovese gets cooked slow for hours

@@spyeglethe difference is huge! Ragù uses 50% beef and 50% pork booth minced meat. For the rest, the cooking part is like the same, just a little bit of tomato sauce in the original ragù and a lot of tomato in the nepolitan version

Italian here. If I am invited to a party I usually bring something to eat cause I know everybody is bringing beverages. Btw usually is not enough to make everybody drunk. Like usually there is a liter per person which is definitely on the lower range for getting drunk.

It's not ragù. Ragù includes tomato sauce, that in this video is not included, and it doesn't use fulle pieces of meat. This reminds me a Genovese, that, despite the name, is a traditional dish from Naples, but for the Genovese you have to add way more onion and no carrots.

@@Chef__Tyler In Italy there are at least two things called "ragù": the one from Naples and the one from Bologna, both are traditional recipes, but quite different one to another. To mention the main differences: Neapolitan ragù is made with chunks of meat and pork, while the Bolognese ragù is made with minced meat and pork. The Bolognese also has much less tomato in it, and the recipe also include milk, unlike the Neapolitan version. Also the cooking process is different. What I see in the video is really interesting: I see elements of both recipes. And regardless of what we may want to call it, it looks really delicious. Bravo!

Whenever I hear about people studying abroad, it reminds me how much often I ignored that I lived in poverty throughout my childhood. My mom died 5 days before Christmas, 2023. Her family is from Naples originally. So for Christmas dinner, I prepared her grandmothers meatball, Italian sausage, spareribs, mushroom Ragu & tagliatelle, 3 types of baked fish, a prime rib, zucchini, and eggplant parmigiana with a Pane Pugliese bread. We feasted and drank 4bottles of wine in her memory. I Love you mom. Miss you so much.

Front door wide open? Doesn’t beat me finding a full sized watermelon turned active volcano burning on the stove the next day cos EVERYONE drank wine, but more importantly the homemade grappa. It still does not explain the watermelon to be fair, except someone must have done it before blacking out. Italians sure as heck know how to party.
