Ive been cutting this shit down for the past 4 or so years. One nasty bastard of a plant, and in many aspects. Itll give you 3rd degree burns, blindness and permanent scarring. And then itll take over your garden. In the areas im cutting down, everything thats not as tall as the hogweed is dead. Even ivy gets smothered out. Having an abundance of the stuff means i got to experiment with it. Old engine oil, fire, bleach, various weedkillers, drain cleaner, sulfate of iron, chlorine tablets dissolved in water, diesel, petrol, and a few other things. Dug up the tap root of one last summer just for the fun too. They go down quite a bit which destroys the soil. Persistent cutting with a slash hook seems quite effective at exhausting the plant(and yourself). Cut it as low as possible to the ground. Ive done that now in an area near me for the past 4 years. Ive noticed a reduction in the amount of hogweed plants for sure but not total irradication just yet. Check in in 4 years time and ill have an update
