No plans to. They sound great as is. Don't see a ton of value in doing so. Maybe in the future for fun

These speakers can be improved sonically with several things - the most important are ribs on the inside; on the front baffle in particular. Also damping material on the remaining areas is a *yuge* improvement. And last but not least, upgrade the critical crossover parts - the results take this speaker to an amazing level. It sounds at least as great as the veneer looks!

Those are all excellent suggestions. I would be really interested to hear an upgraded xover, but that'll have to be down the road $$$

Nice work...! It's possible that the vinyl could be been removed entirely from the speaker with the use of a heat gun. That's how I did it for a pair of speakers that I refurbished. I think the veneer grain for the sides might look a little better if it was oriented vertically instead of horizontally, to match the baffle Does look like a missed opportunity to try converting the grille to use magnets instead of pins :-).

Hey, yea I did the magnetic grill thing for a subwoofer a while back and never used it once lol As far as grain matching, you're right. Unfortunately I was using scrap for this. Didn't have enough material to orient everything ideally. I agree it'd look better!

Where can a guy get that peel n stick veneer? I want to change the veneer on a pair of old Polk Audio bi/di pole surround speakers to black ash

Hey, if I remember correctly, I got this from parts express. There are a ton of online sellers. And the big hardware stores carry it online as well Home Depot etc.

This is not an upgrade, but a veneer gluing

Very nice project and nice woodworking skills! Also, I was not expecting the acoustic measurements at the end! I thought you might want to rewire the crossover to driver connections with something a bit heavier, but obviously they are good. I did this for my older Mission speakers and it did bring better definition than the old thin wires. I have considered getting some of these Elacs since they have rave reviews. Great design job by Andrew Jones. All the best, Rob in Switzerland PS. Subscribed!

Nice work, how do you compare these to your 3-way swans?
@DIYhyfy

They're pretty close by comparison. The bass is roughly the same as Swans, maybe a bit less. Top end is more neutral for sure. I prefer the lifted treble in the Swans. But I think most would prefer the neutral, but who knows

Sooo..you just refinished/wrapped the speaker?.. You missed the easiest upgrade on these speakers...leave off the tweeter grills.
@DIYhyfy

I did consider that, but the ring where the grille sits is filled with ugly goop that isn't very appealing to look at.

Excellent video. If you replace the tweeter caps with Jantzen Superior Z caps, the sound will be taken to the next level and can be end-game budget speakers.

You want me to put a real gold crown on the speakers? I don't have that kind of dough!!
