Wish there were more CSG oriented editor features, like the ones you have in Hammer or Quodot

I haven’t used Hammer or Quodot but I’ll go with your word✊🏽 and agree that it could be better for them to add more features in relation to CSG tools

Those aren't CSG though. It's just brush based geometry, where a brush is much like a regular 3D mesh, but with some restrictions, like having to remain convex, and every face has to be perfectly flat. Although Hammer does allow for boolean operations (I presume Trenchbroom does too, but I can't remember). That said, I agree. It would be great if there was a general purpose level editor. Trenchbroom is so far the best candidate that I know, but the developers don't seem too interested in going that route, (and it pales in comparison to Hammer in terms of features, and the devs also don't seem to care about that). TB is a Quake-first editor, in the sense that it's very much made for quake and support for other engines is... not great. It's hard to setup, and some features are outright not there (e.g.: you can't add textures to custom models for your custom entities -- unless you use WAD files, I think, but again, that's a niche quake thing).

I have used this technique in Blender but not in Godot, do you think it affects the performance?

In Godot its mostly used for prototyping, so in terms of how you will be using CSG I guess we can argue about it based on the way you will be adopting it in Godot.. So I would say it depends on your use-case

@@sekaus9158 You can, but you will have to export the scene as gltf and clean it up in Blender (or whatever modeling program you use) and do the UVs and textures there.

Yes. Csgs are not super performant when it is multiple csgs together. But you can use it for prototyping. Basically when you have two csg shapes and a csg combiner nodes in a scene, godot will treat each combiner as one geometry. So having many combined gemoetry don't effect performance much, but having many shapes in a single combiner/geometry does effect performance a lot.

I would prefer seeing people invest time and energy in making godot excel at certain things required of a game engine, instead of making something that other free software already does much better.

It's nice to have something that you can quickly do without needing to go to another program back and forth.
