Grand Funk-America's first full blown rock band, with music that lives forever.

I saw Grand Funk in Miami in 1972 and I was blown away. Just a piece Band and they sounded like a fucking rock and roll orchestra. I still remember the feeling that sound left in be because it's still with me today!

@@Italy55 Same here. The night I saw them in 1974 at Eastern Kentucky University, I heard and felt music all that night. I even arranged melodies in my head out of the constant, non-stop jarring head sounde.

I saw them in 1972 in Miami and always marveled at how a four piece band could produce so much sound. Live they sounded like there we 6 or 7 members in the band performing.

@@Rock-iw7ov They definitely were, I saw them in 71 also when they were still a 3 man man band in the same place but with better seats. They billed themselves as putting out 80K Watts. I don't know what that meant but it felt like Don Brewer kicked me in the chest every time he hit the bass drum and I couldn't hear for three days.

Wow, memories ! I had a magic/illusion show in the late 70's and 80's. We opened the show with a blasting version of "Flight of The Phoenix" ! Combined with a lot of lights, cannon flashes and girl productions with fire, it definitely got the crowd into it ! Thanks for sharing ! 🎭

Well I'll be damned.. To this day I always thought they had a fourth person come in to play the organ, As well as a violin solo if I remember correctly 😌 Anyway this tune caught me by surprise - 1972 I think. 🤔

Try to find a bad GFR performance. All members consistently hit their marks performance after performance. Only the Who could rival them for stage presence and energy. Schacher and Brewer hold their own against any rock rhythm section.

"Phoenix" started with a bang and ended with a bang. Too bad the rest was filler. But this song was a great jam. I could see Deep Purple doing a song like this
