'Grantchester, about 2 miles up-stream from Cambridge, is perhaps one of the most famous villages in England, loved by many for its rural setting and beautiful meadows along the riverbank' (Rupert Brooke's Grantchester).
Enjoy the hawthorn trees along the riverbank of the river Cam and along the many hedgerows. Enjoy their bountiful red 'berries' and some also showing autumnal colours of yellow, red, and brown hues in their leaves. And others have almost lost all their leaves, showing their contorted trunks and branches.
The hawthorn is a thorny tree that produces berry-like fruits. Some people refer to these as ‘haws’. Haws are not technically berries, as they contain stones, similar to plums. However, I have referred to these fruits as berries, as this is what people commonly call them.
