Warwickshire Hunt / Heythrop Hunt - Barton on the Heath
The Warwickshire Hunt will be glad to see the back of 2023, a year of hemorrhaging their support, the CPN debacle, trespassing and upsetting numerous landowners all topped off with a healthy dose of negative press articles in the run up to the general election. The pressure is clearly starting to get to this hunt and only a tiny group of them were out hunting Barton-on-the-Heath on New Years Day. Convicted huntsman Will Goffe seems to have become very camera shy after Boxing Day where the incompetent Adrian Crofts of Dinha-Risk failed to locate a sab who then went on to film Goffe hunting a fox to ground in a badger sett.
Goffe spent his time running and hiding from sabs around Barton and Little Compton whilst Crofts and Brett Easter did their best to try and convince everyone and themselves that they’ve got everything under control.
Halfway through the day the Heythrop Hunt gatecrashed the Warwickshire’s New Years party. Quad bikes and support arrived from the Wolford Wood / Great Wolford direction and soon huntsman and hounds were charging down the road clearly after a fox.
There was a time when the Warwickshire Hunt would have considered themselves to be equals of the Heythrop, there are still some arrogant Warwickshire members who think themselves the greatest hunt in the country. However reality hit hard on Monday as the Heythrop slapped them down and put them in their place. After wrecking what would have been the Warwickshire’s next draw (next wood to hunt), Wolford Wood, which is clearly where the Heythrop had hunted a fox from, the Heythrop didn’t return to their own area but carried on hunting deep into the Warwickshire Hunts territory hunting first Barton-on-the-Heath, then up to Todenham and across to Little Wolford. We’re not sure where the Warwickshire skulked off to as any foxes they were planning to hunt had either already been hunted or disturbed by the Heythrop but we decided that the biggest threat to local wildlife at this point was the Heythrop so we stuck with them until it got dark.
It seems a lot of the Warwickshire support also made the decision to stick with the Heythrop along with all the former Warwickshire supporters who had apparently been out watching the Heythrop all day. Even former Warwickshire Hunt joint master Keith Arnold was spotted off his horse and in his car watching the Heythrop, presumably with Goffe spending all day running and hiding the best chance of seeing a fox being hunted in the open was at the Heythrop.
Warwickshire Police dropping the CPN against the Warwickshire Hunt has clearly given all hunts the green light that anything goes on Warwickshires public roads with the Heythrop causing similar road chaos on the A3400 that we have become accustomed to the Warwickshire Hunt causing.
